Well its done, well most of it. Still have some polishing to do. What I used was- Shelly's paint stripper - (smallest tin) painters tape paint brush gloves (dish washing) was easy, the minute the paint stripper touched the paint, it started to blister. In all the stripping took only (including both wheels) 30 mins, if that. Has it was done on the bike and I didn't use a race stand took longer moving bike back and fourth. the polishing has taken most of the day, and still needs alittle more work. Also panited the belly pan BLACK

Wish my VFR rims were that easy. I estimate that with the painting as well as the polishing, I spent in excess of 25 hours to do them. The paint is different, and it did NOT want to come off easy. Turned out nice though.

Because I'm a lazy bastard I waited untill I needed new tyres, then just painted some Septone gel paint stripper on. That way I didn't have to worry about the tyres, and I already had the wheels off.
They do come up well.

What did you use to polish them up? I got just some meguiars metal polish or do i need 'wet and dry' also? I got the front wheel all taped up and im going to remove the wheels when i do it all

They actually come up pretty good without polishing them. I just used wet and dry in various grades, then some autosol. You can get kits with polishing wheels that fit into a drill, and a couple of bars of polish for about $30. I've used them with good results too.

Turned out nice though. I remember you telling me how difficult a job it was doing the VFR rims Shayne...but well worth it the bike looks awesome. VTR rims are a doddle to strip and polish, and well worth the effort, definitely complememnts the look of the bike.

Turned out nice though. That's a sweet VFR....... I think the VFR wheels (and probably other hondas too) are powdercoated now, and its an absolute bastard to get off, thats why I painted mine but its not as nice as Shaynes. Seeing that again, I may well polish them. Polishing is actually not as high maintenance as I thought, I have picked up lots of stone chips in the paint. If they were polished, just polish them out, and theres no paint to flake off.

I guess any polish would be fine, and meguiars make great products.

I got the front wheel all taped up and im going to remove the wheels when i do it all The later model storms seem to have an undercoat (or powdercoat like Doggie suggested) that may require some wetndry sandpaper to clean off , then finish with Mothers or Autosol (i havent used Meguiars so cant comment on it) But you can see in Mojo's first picture how good the wheels can be with just paint stripper. Hargs , i would suggest taping around the valve stem if you are concerned , but better to do what Colin did and wait for new tyre time , heaps easier that way to do a full rim. Graham

If they were polished, just polish them out, and theres no paint to flake off. They are powder coated, mine had to be sand blasted (before powdercoating) which is also an option for polishing as they can tape them up to avoid stripping the paint/powder coat in the centres or where ever you want to remain coloured...

IMHO as an ex interstater ( semi trailer) with lots of alloy to keep clean, the easiest polish is a product called PURPLE, from a company called California Custom...Hate to endorse products but if you can find it, you will have easy perfect results...
