Geeze, i would have just ovaled the pipe out a bit...(is ovaled a word") Love your work cheeky, I want underseat pipes ..... :'
I looked at that, but had to make do with 25mm pipe rather than the 45mm that I was able to use.
If you're interested they may be for sale . . . .

Some tricks for welding sheet with a manual arc welder.
Tight joints micro tacked every10-12mm. Tight means tight! Gaps will blow thru.
Weld vertical down with enough heat to maintain the arc. start at the top. If you have to stop, grind out the weld tail and start the next weld from the crest. If the deposit is overtaking shorten the arc and/or revise the apparent rod angle
Use rsm's or similar 1.6mm stainless rods. Rutile ms are ok as an alternative but harder to maintain arc stability. Use only the first half of the rod. The remaining half will current limit (like an incandescent lamp) as it heats up.
An hf start inverter makes the above easier.
I advise anyone not well versed to avoid arc welding sheetmetal like the plague or practice a lot!

See post in For Sale section . . . . Been a while . . . sold the old girl 4 years ago. Still miss her. Guy that got it, did so sight unseen and had it delivered to to Adelaide. Is he on here? Has anyone seen the bike? Just curious. Anyway - Happy Christmas!!
