Hey Mate have you still got the carbs? If so any idea what postage would be to Gold Coast Qld. I need a diaphram for one of mine, but if I get stuck Yours will get mine sorted till I fix my carbs and put them back on eventually
Thanks Kev

All good mate. Mark said you guys were meeting up so hope that fixes the issue you're having Time will tell lol. I may have found a much cheaper source for the Diaphragms too, but will know more during the week. If so I will order them so I have spare new ones and when I come across another pair of cheap carbs I will put together a fully rebuilt set for myself and do another set with new Diaphragms for anyone else that may need a rebuilt set of carbs.

I currently have a few sets of carbs here and wouldn't mind rebuilding one of them to have ready to go when needed...

Hey Kev
The other weekend when you said my bike was rich was it more under hard throttle or in cruising state? Just trying to work out if it's needle or main keys causing it. The bike runs very nice and is responsive so I'm not that keen to start guessing. Thanks

I will pass on details when I confirm it this week mate, Its through my mate Dan. He has a Dyno guy he uses for his R6 and was telling him about it and he said last time he got them they were around the $90 mark each instead of over $200 each. As soon as I know for certain I will let you know John.

Oooo tempted for the calipers. You have some of these on yours don't you John? I cooked my brand new pads and rotors at Queensland Raceway a couple of years ago and they have never been the same since. It would be nice to have a firmer lever. Do they still work ok with the standard Master Cylinder?

The 600f4i calipers are the ducks nuts. They run really well with stock M.C. But it's another step up with a matched M.C. I have 600f4i calipers matched M.C. And braided lines and it's an awesome braking machine when I ride fast enough to take full advantage

Carbs I got from Mark have been stripped and cleaned and everything checked checked jet sizes etc (really good clean standard carb set). Have pulled my carbs off and hmmm no restricters they have been cut out. Strip carbs to bits, find 1 diaphragm with a pinhole. And the carbs have been jetted ....thats a surprise but may explain why a few other things have been done the way they are. So gonna use good diapragms and put original carbs back on at some point in next day or so. Removing the pair system too and a couple of other mods at same time between jobs

What jet sizes are they running? The pinhole will obviously be the main issue but the jets may have something to do with it as well. Previous owner may have tried to fix it by installing bigger jets etc. just something to think about that's all

Up until about 2 weeks ago it ran smooth and real strong, and I was never concerned by economy as I regularly average 230-240k a tank and have had 280k on a run with wife on back. I wouldn't think the jets were done to cover up a diaphragm issue as until a fortnight ago it has been brilliant. It has 48 idle and 190 mains both carbs. I have taken off the water heating from base of carbs too, (Colder Mixture, Denser Air, More Power.) Pair System now gone too. Once its all back together I will double check TPS again, even though I havn't disturbed it since I set it this time last year, then recheck carb balance

My experience with the rear carb is to have a bigger jet than the front.
My set up is standard idles ( Effed if I know what that is , but they work )for an 05 and 180 Front and 182 rear Dyno Jet Main, no holes drilled in the slides The theory is that as the rear runs hotter it needs more fuel.
I must say that what works for me may nort work for you so play at risk.
My belief is that what feels good to you with these carbs is the best route. Opinions abound about what is the right set up , however I am with the "If It Feels Right " brigade , run with it.
One of the unique things about the VTR is the carbs and as much as they are a pain in the arse, if you get them right they are a joy!
Let the games begin!
I like the KISS principle and prefer not to overcomplicate the carbs, the very odd fart is acceptable.
P.S I took my carbs off soooooo many times I had to buy new inlet rubbers and clamps getting this done.

Its all back together and on fire up immediately sounds and feels the way it was before the problem. The difference in sound and feel is chalk and cheese. I will head out for a ride a bit later today to get some parts from Repco for a job I have here so will see for certain if I am right then. While I was doing the carbs as I said I removed the pair system, the carb water heating circuit has been bypassed for cooler mixture, Modified throttle tube from 32mm to 37mm for quicker response and less travel. While there soaked cables in Kero overnight and re lubricated with anti-sieze grease.

The test ride this morning was a success, Thanks griffo I used the diaphragms from the carbs I got from you with my needles etc (my carbs were cleaner inside and kept my jetting etc) and the bike is back to being mental again........ Very very happy here. Plus the mods I did at same time have made it more fun too

Hey Kev,
My experience when I removed/ bypassed the water pipes from the carbs was not pleasant.
I put them back on.
There is a lot of info on the net as to why they should be retained.
Worth a look.

Thanks for the comment advice kenmore But I will not at this stage be putting them back. Too many years working with performance engines and carbs has taught me to reduce all heat at carbs possible.
