All the latest sports tyres have more than enough grip for the bike and the diff feel is prob only when new. I will the $370 specials wether PPs, M1s, M3 or Diablo,s. They even had Corsers for under $400 but they look more like a track tyre to me

Had the Pilot Power 2ct fitted to the front a week or so ago to match the PR2 that I put on the rear a few weeks ago. Have had it out the last 2 days and done almot 600km on them. Felt fantastic and never had a fffff moment on either day. Pushing it reasonably hard (for me) cos I was out with the boys and cant have them thinking I ride like a girl lol Its the same setup that I ran on the 600 and it worked well for me on that one too.

Just got a set of Michelin Road 2s to replace the horrid Bridgestone 016's but haven't tried them out yet. Interesting, i had the 016's then tried the road 2's this time. i liked the 016's more when riding on the edge, didn't feel spongie likr the road 2's do now. The road 2's definatly turn in quicker, you'll notice it straight away. I'm going to try the pilot powers next time. Cheers Jay

Cheers Jay Yeah I am the same as you Jay, the 016 is the best rear tyre I have had on the Busa so far so I am a bit puzzled by Snowcones experience, the only thing I can add is that they like to be up there in pressure similar to Contis, I run mine at 42psi, lower pressures seem to let it move around a bit.

One of the reasons I got them was from a recommendation of one of the guys on our runs that has a Busa and reckons they were good. Seems like they suited the heavier bike because they were all over the shop on my Storm

I have the corsar 3's on the bike now and found them a good tyre, except the warm up time they seem to take forever. I have ordered a set of 016 this time, so i will see how they go.

My ZX9R I bought a few months back came with brand new Shinko Stealths.
I groaned when I saw what they were. Very flat profile, and the "Shinko" brand sounded to me like some cheap off-brand Chinese crap.
Then I rode on them and was astounded. Despite what their profile looks like, they tip in very well and stick like glue. Tons of feel.
Much cheaper than equivalent Metzelers/Michys/etc.
Something to think about.

I got about 5000 kms from my last 016, just replaced it for a pilot road2 I can't say i'd go back to the 016, there's bugger all feel when tipping in. That said, the 016 didn't fade too badly after a day at oran park, where the last set of road2's got very slippery after about 5 or 6 laps. Just as well I won't be going to the track anytime in the foreseeable future

just to update, thanks everyone for the advice, just put the Metzeler M3 sportecs on and have finally had the time to actually put some k's on them and they handle beautifully, thought i'd try something other than the michelins, no regrets so far, just see how they wear now

Just as well I won't be going to the track anytime in the foreseeable future That's the problem with sports/tourer based tyres, they overheat at track pace. Conversely, track based tyres take ages to warm up, and in some cases don't at road pace. I used a set of BT20's at QLD Raceway. Their out right grip was OK, but only for a couple of laps then they would slide all over the place. Once this started you would have to come in, as you couldn't ride slow enough in safety to let them cool.

Tyres are only as good as the best you have used. If you haven't used a few different types then you haven't got much experience to compare against.

I have been eyeing these off along with the Dunlop SportSmart (Q2), the new Conti Road Attack 2 and the Metzeler M5. I have got maybe another 1000km left on some Pilot Powers and I am eager to try something else and with a whole new range of rubber coming out it will be a good time to buy in a couple of months. PP's seem overall quite good and very confidence-inspiring, but they also tramline severely over even the smallest irregularity IMHO.
Keep us informed how they go compared to what you had previously used.
Actually just ordered in some Q2's as well. Giving them a shot.

I've got Q2s on my storm at the moment, rear is probably about half way through, quite a few thousand road Ks and 2 trackdays, still have about 3.8mm in the centre grooves of the rear. They have astonishing amounts of grip on the track, they certainly inspire confidence during high speed turns. I have another trackday next weekend, and a thousand or so ks of riding to put on them this weekend, so I'll let ya know total mileage when they're spent.
The one thing I would suggest staying away from is gravel. Warm Q2s seem to get small bits of gravel embedded fairly deeply into the tread, not sure if that is just par for the course for this type of tire or a Q2 thing. I can imagine a few hundred ks of gravel chewing them up pretty quickly.

are you blokes using the Q2 front and rear? i have a pirelli corsa III on the back, seems pretty good and looks brand new after 3500km. but i have a bald pirelli supercorsa on the front, was a good tyre but the sides are bald with decent tread left in the center. it's done about 9-10000km, so pretty good really. I was going to go to the new diablo rosso front, but im not so sure. i commute 20mins each way to work, and ride the hills most weekends. i was thinking maybe going to a pilot pure, i want something that heats up quick with good feedback, the storm is a little vague at the best of times

I have just recently had the Pilot Pure fitted, Im quite happy with it, in fact it feels better planted than the powers I was on.
I have no clue as to life span, I got 8000kms out of the powers I suspect I will struggle to get 10000kms (I always hope for at least 10k) with the Pures.

The pure is my choice of next tyre (when I pull my finger out and take the wheels in). The only aspect that does cross my mind is the light construction. I haven't heard much in the way of them being anymore prone to punctures than the other sports tyres though.
I would be happy with another set of diablo's, but I like swapping around a bit just to experience how tyres change, and the pure is a major model upgrade, so they are at the top of my list.

I cant imagine that they would be anymore susceptible to puncture given I have had a puncture in the rear at least once each for the last 3 or 4 tyres including Qualifiers, Pilot road & powers. I cant feel the extra weight loss, but I reckon I get much more feed back from these tyres which is nice. I havent really had a nice wet day with a bit of time up my sleeve to see what they do, but in the small amount of wet ive done they again feel really stable. I like em .

I have been using Bridgestone's Battlaxs for a while on a number of bikes I've had (FZ1 and Sprint ST 1050) but when I needed some new hoops for the VTR, the Dunlop Sportmax Roadsmarts were recommended to me and, for the couple of thousand of kms I done so far, it,s been all good!

Anyone got any updates on new tyres?
I've got Mich pilot road 2cts and they are tried and true. Held up extremely well in the wet with my gf on the back on a 400km trip. 3cts should be even better but I'm not that interested because I don't seem to push hard in the wet. (Guess it would be useful in an emergency)
Anyone tried anything new or willing to post about the lifetime of the sportier tyres? Pure or Q2s? Is there others you've tried recently?

When I pick up my Storm it will have a new PR3 on the front and a half worn PR2 on the back. When they're finished I'll be going to Pilot Powers as they were bloody fantastic on my FZ1. I have PR3's at both ends of mt Bandit 1250 so I could be a bit biased

I have a 190/50 Pilot Power on the back of mine. I notice that the previous owner had to cut a notch out of the chain guard to accommodate the width of the rear tyre. Don't know why he put that on. When it's worn I'm thinking I will replace both front and rear with a set of Metzeler Sportec M5 Interact's putting the rear back to a stock 180/55.
