Malone and I got talking to bloke named Bob in bar at Newie hotel in Walcha who appeared to be a derro drinking cheap plonk told me he was first bloke to run across Simpson which I took with a grain of salt, appears to be true maybe some already know, following is quote from Wiki: Notable people from Walcha Bob Beer is notable for his feats of endurance which included pedalling around Australia when he was 58 averaging 145 km every day, without support vehicle or backup.[15][16] He was the first person to run the 420 km across the Simpson Desert, which he accomplished in six days.[17] Bob Beer also made a remarkable solo journey across Australia by kayak from Port Alma to Murray Mouth.[18]

He told me about the riding around Oz on the pushbike. He befriended Port Augusta mayor Joy Baluch and wanted her to send him off in style on his journeys but she was unable to do it ... he seemed disappointed in that one.
I bet he has a hundred stories to tell .... if only people had the time to listen :/

He once told me that "all the best workers, fighters and lovers he had known where dead and in the ground, and here he was still going"
still alive too apparently a few years on.

July 2018 Bob is still going strong. Met him at the Apsley Arms in Walcha. He was a lovely fellow. Very keen to learn all about my journey. He did not mention much about himself at all excepting some health issues we discussed. While Bob was out of the room momentarily the publican eluded to the fact that the gentleman had some amazing stories to tell. As others have mentioned. Cycling across (or around??) Australia. Running across the Simpson Desert and his Kayaking from Rockhampton to the mouth of the Murray. At this point Bob reappeared and he recounted some of his exploits. Shortly after the publican appeared with a homemade publication of Bobs kayaking adventure called "The Inland Seaman" $20 dollars later i had an autographed copy of the book, Bob and the publican had $20 for plonk and food and thus the cirle of life continued.
