As many of you are aware, I deemed myself over the hill and a potential major bike disaster waiting to happen so I have now secured my latest project to play in the shed seeing as I have no more bikes. It's 58 Star model Customline. An older gentleman has been restoring it and has decided to part with it. The body has been off the chassis and all the rust has been done and all ther suspension and steering have been rebushed. The upholstery and hoodlining are done also. It came with all the spare parts from 2 additional donor cars so i have 3 engines, transmissions, panel, doors etc - you name it, I've got a couple of them. It's at the stage to be rewired and get the engine running. Apparently none of the engines are runners but there are a pair of recoed heads and a brand new Holley on one of them. Looks like hours of fun before she is on thye road

Good point, we are already calling it the "clown car"
Surprisingly, this is the original ford colours for that model.

Would be a side valve V8 wouldn't it? I remember seeing a Custom line with the heads off as a kid and thinking it had like a old watercooled 2 stroke head except 4 joined together ;D Nice project by the way

no Chicko they are OHV 272 cu in Y block V8 I had a few of these motor would blow rear crank seal and slip clutch camshaft bush would also turn blocking oil to rockers. Other weakness was chassis would rust out in front cross member and lower wishbone could fall out taking steering and brakes out which happened to me mowing down half a k of fencing after running off road. Still had heaps of character and had that lazy deep V8 note pretty sure they were 90 degree V8 popular in their day

Congrats mate I'm sure you'll get lots of pleasure from it, i know i would...... I recently bought a 75 Fairlane destined for restoration when I can allocate some resources...(Storms come first) and if i can get it looking that good i'd be happy... Mine still runs though, just full of rust.

As Alpal said, 272 Y block in the sedans and 292 in the F series trucks. The Yank Thunderbird also got a 312 in both N/A and Blown versions (400HP in the early 60's) but all the blocks are virtually identical and you have to rely on casting numbers to pick them externally.
For some reason the Australian blocks were cast in Canada and the identical USA ones were cast in Dearborn and Cleveland.
All the Australian cars were supplied from NOS parts (new old stock) that were 2 years old out of Canada so a 58 model in Aus is a 56 model in USA.
But the Yanks never got our favoured Star model as they had moved on to the Crown Victoria/Fairlaine by the time we got our last Customline model in 58/59

It should be a lot of fun. I've always wanted to build up a nice car. I doubt that I ever will now, my back struggles with working on cars these days.

Be a great cruiser for sure. I know this is a bike forum, but I for one would like to see a thread on here showing your rebuild. I would put an injected 5 litre Windsor in it.
