My mate Larry took me for a run up to Yarramundi lookout and few other local trips. But my first big ride was up the Putty.

I rode back from Singleton to home, trip of almost 100km. Excluding the learners course it was my first ride on a bike. On my first trip I a) dropped it (girly moment) b) Gave it too much juice out of a right hand turn, ended up fishtailing the back of the bike on the dirt patch on the side of the road.. but I somehow saved it boo-yeah!! ;D ;D Never looked back

I borrowed dad's kingswood in 1991 and had to have it towed home... I did the clutch. He made me fix it under his guidance. I ended up learning a lot mechanically with that car!

Well my road riding started a few years after I had my car licence. I was 21 when I got my bike licence, on my dirt bike. So my first road ride was on my KDX200 to gte to the dirt in Cloncurry for a fang. Bloody good bike that was too. As I had been riding for many years already there were no "fun" issues to report. Apart from the obvious fun of course!

First legal ride was when I picked up a brand new Suzuki TS50 trailbike. I had never riden a motorcycle before and it was in England in 1979. I paid £380 for it and I got my license by paying £5 at the DOT. No test, no paperwork...things were a lot simpler then. At 16 you could ride a restricted 50cc motorcycle (limited to 30mph), you could also ride anysize motorcycle if it had a side car attached to it ...even a Z1300...oh and I made the 5 mile trip home fine albeit a tad anxious

My first legal ride was on a bike my old man used to ride to work on, a Suzuki Honcho, a 90cc 2stroke trail bike (what a weapon) in 1971. Now that you've all stopped laughing, my last illegal ride was on the same bike about 3 months before. The cop actually kicked me in the arse then took me home and my old man did the same thing.

Old IT250 got my P's (restricted to a 250cc didn't matter it was a 2stroke haha) lasted about 2 months till I piled into a stationary Hilux at about 70k's out the front of the local soccer ovals where some mates were playing a game,I had failed to see the Hilux stopping in front of me for traffic
