Well I thought I would chime in with an update as the bike is now just over 6 months old and has just this week ticked over 10,000 km so its well run in and definitely getting used as intended. We did the big road trip in August (4500 km) and my almost 400 km per week commute racks up the k's but this is what these bikes thrive on.
So my assessment of 'busa ownership is of a glowing nature, after 30+ years of riding I'm not easily impressed but this bike is something out of the ordinary. I cannot heap enough praise on the capabilities of the 'busa, it just does everything so effortlessly. On long hauls the economy is remarkable, a gel seat or sheepskin would be good for 8 hr days but in normal use comfort is quite good, very neutral riding position, the addition of a double bubble screen proved to be a wise investment I literally stay totally dry if caught in the rain on the highway. Havent replaced tyres yet, I reckon theyre good for another 2000 easy, biggest gripe is the ease of which the paint scuffs up, I know of other owners with the same issue and its disappointing. Considering our GSX-R1000 is almost 5 years old and barely a mark on it, to see the tank of the busa scuffing up so quick wasnt pretty. But it was bought to ride not to be a showpiece and as such has proven to be a grand choice. As a tourer, commuter, sports bike anything you throw at it is handled with ease. Looks are subjective but it appeals to some people and not to others but then so do a lot of bikes I suppose but personally the hayabusa does everything I need it to do very very nicely indeed. Even though we have the gixxer which is still an awesome machine too i would consider doing a track day on the busa and maybe even have a crack at a run down the strip at Willowbank. I reckon I'll be hanging onto this unit for quite a number of years....
