I don’t think you are stupid. You just have a bad luck when thinking.

I am at well over 180,000 km on my VTR. Granted, I had the engine rebuilt at about 160K, not because it needed it (ran flawlessly, no oil burning,...) but because I wanted to put in some hop-up parts (high com pistons, custom rods,...). So long as you keep an eye (ideally, replace) on the rectifier and camshaft chain tensioners, you should be good for years of reliable use and enjoyment....

Only 50k's on mine but the mechanic noted that these engines, when maintained correctly, easily do over 100k's, which is clearly evidenced by the HUGE k's noted in the posts above. Pretty phenomenal!!

I have 73000 on mine. Due for a valve check, but does not blow smoke on start up or at all, does not use oli - oops drinking ( me and the bike although different brews!) Runs fantastic with just regular oil/filter changes and a lookover occasionally. Think I may give the valve check a miss this time around due to; A. Laziness and B. Its a Honda, Oh and C. I've had a couple of ales or 10!
