Hi guy's, I've just been told by my mechanic that I need a new engine due to bending of the rods from compression build up?? Ive found one on evil bay for $1000.00 from a wrecker, but I'm trying to find a better deal....... As I paid $1500 for a major service and now this has happened less than 60 k's later the money going out far out weighs the effort...or is there any better options?... Any ideas or offers would be awesome...thanks, as this is my wife's ride and I want mine back!!!!!!

Mate , I would be asking a few questions about why an engine is buggered straight after a service was done. These motors are bulletproof if you keep an eye on the cct's , sounds a bit suss to me.

Get a second opinion from another mechanic, rods won't bend from compression loading unless the engine took in water and the engine "hydrauliced" then other damage will also occur.
I am guessing with bent rods the engine may be seized? What were the symptoms before it's demise?
Is this mechanic the same guy that did the $1500 service?
Very odd that this occured 60k's after a service......What did he do wrong??
Don't buy a new engine yet, ask more questions...office of fair trading?
When it's all sorted find a new mechanic! Dave

Guy's thanks for the feedback , in answer to some of your questions..... Yes it was the same mechanic that did the service, I am waiting for fair trading to get back to me, and the symptoms prior to problem was .... Started first time every time, got the service, started twice...then nothing. He tried to tell me that battery was flat, then it was the starter clutch....then went straight to bent rods due to hydroliced....... Definitely will be changing mechanics....I'm also now in the market for a right hand red fairing as my wife put mine down on Friday...breaking her arm in 3 places......at least she went big and didn't do a girly.... #crys#

I'm in HolsworthyNSW, .....I still haven't heard anything back yet from fair trading but I'll wait another couple of days and then I'll give them a call. As I need to replace the left and right hand fairings now on my red bike (I bought one from eBay, got it today and it's got cracks all through it) I was tossing up the idea of getting an after market SP2 fairing kit from one of the Chinese dealers...any thoughts?

I'm in Holsworthy too. I'm a little worried about this mechanic you use as I'm about due for my first service and wanted to take it to a shop for my first. Can you pm me the name of one you would stay clear of?

Hi Guys,
Further to this, we have had the engine looked at by my brother in law (who is a mechanic lol), the internals to the engine are fine...praise the lord...it is actually the starter clutch. Thank god for family...(who says you can't marry into luck....hahaha) as I'm looking for a new starter clutch does anyone have an =y ideas as to where to get one cheaper than going to Honda parts???
Thanks. Jim.

I think I was referring to your run of unfortunate luck, and not wanting you to spread it here. Tongue in cheek sort of stuff There's plenty of room for more stormers on the Goldie, and everyones welcome.

Thanks mate...was a little concerned I'd trod on my pecker there....lol. In line with this thread, I've just chucked on up on the Stuff for sale thread, the rest of the undamaged fairing parts from my RED '01 Storm that my missus dropped, and yes she is fully healed. I managed to get one of the Chinese ABS plastic molded ones from blisstar express, it fit on with only a couple of hiccups ie: needing to elongate a couple of holes and use some force to align others, as well as having to plastic weld the side fairings to the nose cone when putting the screen and mirrors back on as when the bolts are in place they pull out from the nose cone. But all in all, not a bad option. I am moving to Brissy next week and when I get set up there I'll chuck a piccy or 2 on. Thanks for your help and advice guys!!! Cheers. Jim.
