Hey all Since doing damage to my hand I've only been on very short rides as I had limited movement. A couple of weeks ago I went for a good ride hurt like hell. Today I went with a few mates down to tin can bay & didn't hurt as much however gripping the throttle for to long my hand cramps up & when I come up behind cars or come to a corner & I have to brake I have to slow down sooner before applying the brakes as my hand is stiff & I still can't 2 finger it i have to use my whole hand. So all in all the main issue is stiffness from holding the throttle for to long, so I can ride just don't think I can go hard through the twisties as the fingers take a bit to release from the throttle Cheers Sean

MMMM they do look good & would consider the hand grip thing, however the issue more then anything is stiffness, I still have fluid build up in the joints so its a case of using it more but that grip may work for that Cheers for them Ernie

Well fingers crossed for ya that it gets better sooner rather than later.

A simple and cheap exercise or grip strength is finding something heavy a full fuel jerry can is the best to start with (20l one). Stand upright and lean over and pick it up arm fully extended and hanging by your side and just hold onto it as long as possible do this in sets of whatever the pain solerance is and over time it will help with strength. As with everything there is a down side if done for a prolonged period of time it develops forearm muscles which if you are prone to arm pump will make it worse as the muscle can not expand in its sheath the cause of arm pump in the first place. If you have a decent mountain bike down hill mountain biking will also help grip reduce arm pump and generally make you fitter if thats your thing. I mountain bike and dont get arm pump and my grip is better, i compensate for the getting fit by drinking half my weight in XXXX ;D

I have found that holding a cold Stubby with the top removed, and lifting it repeatedly to about head height, holding it there for a brief pause, then tipping the wrist slightly, then back upright before lowering it back to its original position, then repeating the exercise for a period of time, say, at least half a Dozen Stubbies This exercise is a benefit on several levels, firstly the "use it or lose' it aspect of the movement, works and develops the hand wrist and arm muscles and joints, The coldness of the contents reduces inflamation in the muscles and joints of the hand, and the alcohol helps as a mild pain killer......... and more is better...................It's just win win all round really....

I've been riding a pushy with the boys to school & same routine in the arvo so my hand is getting a workout applying the brakes. It's brake levers are reverse to other bikes I have ridden, usually the left lever is the rear brake & the right is the front this 1 however has the right being the rear so my hand gets a workout as I dont want to get ahead of the boys & its all down hill to school & you can get some speed up. On the way home though is a good cardio workout & the other thing is my being able to make a fist is improving as I force my hand around the grip tightly Yes alpal I expect a good couple of years for anywhere like full movement but at least I've still got the use of my full hand
