I've searched the forums and consulted Mr Google but cannot find a basic 'how to' on lowering front (standard) forks on the storm.
I just added a 6mm spacer to the rear and several people also suggest lowering the forks. Thoughts? How-to?

A nice piece of timber and a jack under the sump. Take the weight of the bike and then undo your triple clamps and bars. Then either lower the the jack until happy. 5mm is the norm

+1 for rear stand as well, stabilize the bike to ensure its not going anywhere first. just make sure the bolts are tight when your finished

The same up here mate....I have been trying to work on my bike as well but if its not the rain I then get blown away...
