Ok I had a few hours....and a few more to give the header pipes a quick clean. I made the mistake of thinking how they would look all polished up.....when you start you cannot stop you need to keep going. This what they looked like at around 95% finished...

Hate to rain on your parade , they won't stay like that for long.
If your lucky they will go a lovely golden colour.
I know from experience.

Still can't believe the mirror-like finish you got on your header pipes. I spent 3 hours last weekend polishing mine (pipes, that is!) and then took the beast for a 45min ride. Golden brown by the time I got home. Well, at least they don't have rust all over them anymore.
The two exhaust pipe clamps that join the muffler to the exhaust header pipe have seized on my bike (the ones that look like glorified hose clamps). I have a D&D exhaust (ludicrously, illegally loud) and they came with their own pipe clamps that are a smaller diameter compared to the original pipes on the bike so I can't use the original muffler pipe clamps because they are too big.
My question is, do these clamps need to be really tight/strong? It seems like they kind of support weight/load of the header pipe as it runs under the bike (it has nothing else supporting it or attaching it to the bike until it reaches the head itself). Currently I have a hose clamp holding my right side muffler to the header pipe as a stop-gap until I get a replacement clamp (if I can find one! no one in Australia seems to sell the things). I haven't taken the bike out with the hose clamp on because I fear it is far to 'weak' and the header pipe my slide out and drop. The manual states a torque value of 20lb-ft or thereabouts if memory serves, which is fairly tight.
