Ok we all have to wear them and because of the differences in our heads what's your choice of brain unit protector?
i currently have a Nitro only because it was comfortable but I am looking at a Bell or HJC at the moment...
what's yours?

My last helmet was a Shark Vision R. It was a good fit for my noggin and I loved the internal drop down sunnies, real practical for the commute. It deteriorated at an alarming rate though. The shell all faded and went off colour and started peeling. And one of the visor mounts snapped the first time I ever removed the visor to clean it. But the worst is the inside of the visor delaminated and went permanently foggy so I couldn't see out properly. I had to start wearing my 8 year old Nolan N84 again which cost $350 back when i bought it. Its shell is still in great nick after all those years but the padding was getting worn and loose which is why I bought the Shark in the first place. I'm pretty POV so I ended up buying another brand new N84 for $150 off ebay. This UK mob do independant crash ratings on helmets which is worthwhile to look at helmets you may be interested in. sharp.direct.gov.uk/

I wear a Shoei Xr1000. Next helmet will be the Icon Variant. How do you find the wind under the visor when flat out?

Haven't worn one out on the road. When they first came out their advertising was around them wind tunnel testing up to 140kmh without an issue. There is a person who has one in our ride group and he loves it. He hasn't said anything negative about it. Looks even better with a dark visor.

I have a HJC Cl-16. It's the only helmet I've ever had so can't really compare to anything. I'm looking @ getting a shoei in the near future. Tried on a couple the other day & was happy with the fit. Either an XR-1100 or a TZ-X

I have an AGV Stealth that is the quietest helmet I have owned.
It has lasted very well and is super comfortable.
Got it from a wharehouse in Sydney and have looked after it.
Now 4 years old and gets used mostly on long trips.
Have a bell open face, and a HjC as well, but the AGV is the best by far.

I have tried many helmets and ranging in price from $150-$1200 and opted for the cheaper helmets just based on comfort. Now the problem with this is your only in the shop for a short time and the next helmet I buy will be a lighter helmet for the longer days out.

I currently wear an Arai vector. The shell shape fits my head , and the cutouts inside fit my ears well. It's my third Arai , and I wouldn't keep buying them if I didn't like them. However I have two issues now though , one is the visor mechanisms and sidecover pods can break easily if you are not exactly precise in changing the visor. The other is wind noise , more of a bike problem as the 'storm had a double bubble screen and was not noisy at all, whereas the current Triumph Tiger has a small sport screen and I get wind blast. Otherwise , they are a quality helmet. Next one will be something that fits as well as the Arai , but with a smoother side section so it will be (hopefully ) quieter.

Unfortunately just like tyres, helmets are a personal thing and you don't really know if they are any good until you buy them and use them. Then you can't take 'em back!

Arai always fitted my "meaty" head better than Shoei, then they disappeared from the Aussie market for a long while, they are back but there are a lot of new players. I guess when buying an unknown brand you must prod & pull on the bits (lens, padding & airflow plastics) to assess the quality whilst shopping in the price range appropriate for what you expect to get for your money..

Yeah I hear ya $900 for a Helmet is tuff but again lol how expensive is ya noggin :-) What I like is the decrease turbulence inside and the fact it deflects wind well so your neck isn't tired after a long day in the saddle at speed and the helmet just doesn't move on your head at all no matter the speed It's so highly subjective though and head shape plays a big part too

See my head shape is best suited to bell or hjc....and then nitro which I wear now. I tried on all brands and price ranges when I started shopping round and everything from 1200 to 100 dollar and found certain more expensive brands didn't suit at all.

I had a cheap AGV thing many years ago that I got when I bought my first bike, I had a lowside in it and took a knock so I replaced it with a Shoei. Night and day difference would be an understatement! The Agv was like an egg shell filled with concrete compared to the Shoei. I've got 3 helmets nowadays, A Shoei is the back up helmet and is probably the better part of 4 years old. Still a good unit but a mate was getting out of bikes and sold me his near new Mick Doohan replica Arai for nix 2 years ago. Fits my fat head perfectly and is the best helmet I've ever owned. I've also got a Fly racing helmet for the off-road business. Almost as comfy as my Arai. For me it's all about the comfort and anti fogging. If I'm comfy, It's one less distraction and I can concentrate on making sure the fuzz isn't hiding in the bush around the next corner

You guys know about the different head Lasts that helmets are made with? Thats why some will suit you and some dont.
Im a Med oval. So Shoei, HJC etc fit. Sadly I really wanted a Bell. Had one on my head for 2 mins and instant headache. Not a fault with the helmet, just different shapes.
I have a LS2 with droppy internal visor which is useless, apart from that its a great helmet. Showing it age after 2 years of commuting though. But over 160 kph I get a head shake with it, not the bikes but mine.
I also have a HJC RPHA10, fits me very well. Came with tinted visor and pin lock. Very good helmet. Stable at 200kph+. Only use it at track days and weekend rides.

I bought a matte black HJC IS-17 from the states back in December (they hadn't released them in Oz by then, still don't know if they have). It fits my head perfectly (same shape as the older IS-16 if you need to try one on in Oz for reference) and was absolutely super value for money (circa $230 delivered at the time). Did I mention the freakin' awesome inbuilt visor lens it has?! www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/hjc-is-17-helmet

So who's wearing what these days? I'm due a new one. Shark vision r fits perfect great for my glasses but i hate the look of it. Speed r I'm a fraction loose in the L but squished in the M Bell star carbon i love but glasses dont fit well. Arai vector 2 seems overpriced for the quality but fits good. Kabuto aero 3 fits good don't go much on their graphics Dunno which way to go

I've got a shark evoline 3 modular helmet but it doesn't quite fit properly, get a bit of a headache after a long ride. Was okay when the padding was new but after a year of use its starting to get progressively worse. My heads too oval and presses at the front. The sun visor that pops down is great, but almost hits my nose and that worries me a little... Didn't really think this purchase through and in hindsight I realise my head isn't the right shape for most shark helmets, but I wanted a modular helmet for the summer commute to the city and the shoei neotec was nice but I didn't like that you couldn't ride with the chin up and the visor down. I think the shark is unique in this - the chin bar flips right round to the back and you can still use the visor.
Before that I had a kabuto aeroblade 3, I still wear that commuting in the winter. It's a great helmet for the price, SUPER light and if you're not on a naked bike the wind noise isn't too bad. Only problem I've got with it is the visor has three notches or something - it goes closed, half open, wide open. The anti fog in it is shit, but it's pinlock acceptable so this is okay (if you've never used a pinlock insert, do yourself a favour. On the coldest mornings with me exhaling the entire contents of my lungs onto the visor repeatedly I literally CAN NOT fog it up. Whoever invented pinlock deserves millions.) but on more expensive helmets like shoei there's a few more notches before its wide open so on a hot day you can click it up a quarter inch and get some more air on your face. Also there's a bit of wind coming through the seals around the edge of the visor at speed (120+). Sort of a whirring, whistling noise at certain angles. Okay with earplugs but without it gets a bit much on a long ride. Can definitely see where the money goes in a shoei compared to this cheaper helmet. But it's still a good, reasonably priced midrange helmet that I've been wearing for two years without much issue...
Just recently got a shoei gt air. $800. Ouch. But after an 8 hour ride the other day it just paid for itself. Quiet. Comfortable. Quality. I'll never not have a shoei on the shelf at home after this purchase.
