Hi all,
This is probably only relevant to QLDers but i thought the rest of you might find it interesting nonetheless.
As a background rego cost here is not based on CCs at all, only number of seats. So if you convert your bike to a single seater the rego costs half (due to lower CTP). because my Storm was converted to single seat by the previous owner my rego renewal recently cost $238.40 for 12 months.
For you QLDers the rules have just been changed and it is now easier to get it changed! You no longer have to get an engineering certification and mod plate fitted! You can just fill in the paperwork and take it to TMR and they will change the rego over for no charge and refund you any remaining difference! If you don't pillion on your storm save yourself some money and convert it.
Changing it over can be as simple as having a seat cowl fitted and removing the pillion pegs. The previous owner of my bike had to get the engineers cert back when he did it and he did a more permanent mod that i thought was quite clever so I will show you what he did.
He bought a second seat and cut off the pillion half of the padding (gave me the original too)
he also got the front half re-padded and covered. Its much more comfy than my old storm was.
The seat cowl looks like a normal one at first glance but he made it new from scratch. You can see the seat locking post etc that he put on it in the pics.
He cut a hole in the back half of the seat so you can access the tools without taking the seat off. The seat is now held on by the long bolt you see sticking up.
The cowl is unlocked by using the key and removing it the same way you used to with the seat.
I hope that makes sense?? See the pics!
