While I still have a VTR that I'm doing up, it now belongs to my son. I've gone out and Joined the dark side. I just picked up my new 2015 MT-09 ABS yesterday. I started the mods last night, just some race stand spools, and a flyscreen. Today I will probably continue as the weather is shit. I have an Akrapovic full system to fit. No doubt there will be more, but that can wait until after xmas. The bike seems pretty good. It was a shit ride home from Brisbane in heavy traffic and rain, so I really didn't get a chance to do much. All I can say so far is that it is great in traffic, has a wicked induction growl when you give it some, and the motor kicks hard. I only got to do 50klm on it yesterday, so I'm still limited no high rpm or extended high loads. The pipes look and sound like these.

Nice one colin. I have read a lot of good things about the MT-09. A great bike for the money. My Street Triple had an awesome induction growl so I know what you mean there. It makes the bike so much more engaging to ride. That Akra system would sound so much better under load. Just revving it on a stand wouldn't do it justice. Enjoy! Give us a more detailed review once you have spent some more time with it.

I actually looked at one of these during the week....I went into the show room and there was no one there until a random cam up to me taking off his helmet and asked if he could help me. Not sure who he was but just said I was looking at this MT09 and he just smiles and tells me he has a demo out the front.....He was the guy that works there but loves the bike so much he nics off on it during work....

I took it for a ride up the northern side of Mt Mee this morning. I'm still running it in, and after today it still has only done about 120klm. But, it was still fun, even with a limited RPM of 5600. I'm going to drop the pressure in the tyres. The dealer set them to the factory specs which are a little too high for the best grip. The seating position is a little foreign to me, but it all works nicely when we hit the corners. It is no where near as windy as I thought it would be, so that's good too. I fitted a flyscreen to it the night I got it home, maybe it actually works? I have also fitted the Akrapovic system. It was a dead easy job. All the thread locker and anti seize is supplied with the kit. I have left the decibel killer in, but it will occasionally come out. So far I'm very happy with the bike, it goes, handles, and stops really well. The engine is a marvel, it is just so punchy anywhere in the rev range.

Well, I've nearly gone through a tank full of fuel now. The worst thing so far has been Yamaha putting their accessories online. I ordered some of the genuine radiator protectors. On Sunday night and they arrived at my place this morning. I guess it gives me something more to do this afternoon. I'm still waiting for a stack of stuff for the VTR. I bought all the paint, hardener, and thinners the other day, so it will mainly be the time to work on it as the only hold back now. These shots give a better idea of the colour when it is in the sun.

Have a look at you tube and watch the video with the insides of the cans removed.... Yes, they sound awesome with the decibel killer out. I've left mine in, I don't need the temptation at the moment (still trying to run it in). They are pretty loud like that, it would be fine for the odd ride, but for everyday use it might be too much.

Great bike and if your into wheelstands these mt09s are great They are a nice fun bike. Great for cutting through traffic, they seem to go well in the corners, and the way the engine delivers torque everywhere is truly amazing. I rode a few 800's, but none have anywhere the punch that this does.

They are pretty basic, and there is bugger all storage under the seat. I wouldn't call them practical, but they are fun+.

I saw a couple out in the GC hinterland today. They are becoming quite popular.
