Latest visitor to the Man Cave! The 848 has gone and the Tuono takes it's place. The 848 will be back for maintenance from time to time. For now this is the latest distraction. Really nice to ride but lacks torque down low compared to the VTR. Early days! This is going to be fun I hope. After sampling so many bikes whilst owning the VTR it is my opinion that the VTR is a true all round bike. More than the sum of it's parts. A very capable bike in its own right. A bloody bargain in fact!

Just went for a quick ride,
Faark, this thing has got some balls.
The VTR sounds better though.
Brakes good, suspension needs some adjustments.

Been playing, Bloody dash is hard to work out. I had a Shiver 750 with three way mapping but this thing has so many settings it's gunna take some time to get my head around it. The old Shiver You can see that they share some similar DNA. The only reason the Shiver went was because it didn't have enough grunt and it cost too much to get the extra power I wanted.

Have clocked some K's up on the Tuono,
Starting to get used to it. The power is unreal, brakes are great, the sound is growing on me and I am sorting the suspension.
Front is a tad soft.
This thing is mechanically noisy, the Storm is quieter.
One thing for sure, I will never complain about the Storm seat again.
Also the fuel economy is not that good, could be because I have been riding it in track mode and screwing it on to hear the induction roar.
I must be biased because I still like the Storm better.
The Tuono is hard to thrash whereas the Storm isn't.
The torque of the Storm is far superior in the twisties, and it is more relaxed.
I find all of the information on the Tuono dash a distraction as well.
It's early days I guess and there is a lot to get used to.

At least you got another "V". Are they a V2 or V4? I bought a Bandit 1250 just to have a more upright and grunty bike. I thought it might compliment the storm. Its got plenty of go just stock, 4th gear 4000revs and beyond I need a G suit. But it is heavy and doesn't handle so well in corners. Predictable and smooth just riding around. But it bores me, its just got no character.....The storm on the other hand .....the bandit is for sale!

Had a ride test day on one of those ,fantastic fun,if i had the money ,it would be a toss up between the tuono and the 1290 superduke I know someone with both, the lucky bugger. All the guys who bought the beemer S1000R bagged him out for buying an "unreliable" KTM. Well he has the last laugh because the S1000R has turned out to be a dog with all sorts of problems. I love the Tuono. Those V4s are the best sounding 4 cylinder around.

V4 with a very distinctsound with the Akrapovic and race map.
Sort of cackles like a bunch of Sheila's on a steady throttle at low revs.
Going to ride to work on it tomorrow and play a bit more.
Feeling guilty that I have not ridden the Storm since last weekend.
Next weekend is operation Storm.
The Tuono has character that's for sure.
I have mates who when I was heavily into the Enduro scene until a couple of years ago that had KTMs and I called them ATMs because they were always spending money on them.
I guess it's the luck of the draw.
The 1290 looks the goods but just can't get the ATM though out of my head.
I'm sure there are many stories around about Apes as well!

Yeah who would have thought the beemer would be worse quality. 8 out of the 10 people I know who bought S1000Rs have sold them again. I know what you mean though. There is a certain brand of car that I have owned two of while were both incredibly bad. I don't care how good they supposedly are now, I will never buy another one, period.

Have sorted the front end .
Still like the Storm better.
Have clocked about 2,000K's and while the Tuono is obviously more technically advanced if I had to choose it would be the Storm.
Just a better all round bike that involves you more.
If I hadn't of put so much time, effort and $ into the Storm It would probably be a different story though, and there in lies the difference in the ownership experience.
How the Faark , or why would you want/ need more power than the Tuono already has. Pipe and different mapping take care of that.
Who would have the $ to improve the Tuono to the same extent that I have improved my Storm.
Each time I get a different bike it serves to highlight what a great bike the Storm is and can be!
So I might be on the dark side from time to time, however it's not as enjoyable in my opinion.
The current Tuono is the 3rd bike through the man cave since I have had the Storm, yet it stays!
I doubt very much that I will become as intimate with the Tuono as I have with my Storm.
Time will tell!

well, a few weeks on and the Tuono is sorted.
Suspension all done and now it is manage able under full throttle.
There will be a few more little things done but essentially it's ready to rumble and rumble it does. Went for a ride yesterday with a few mates and smoked them up Barrengarry mountain after Kangaroo Valley until a Policeman put an end to the proceedings.
Got some stern words about what happens when motorcyclists crash.
I informed the copper that I was fully aware of the consequences if one was to lose it.
He must of had the shits because he would of heard me coming up the mountain as I was fairly up it as I came around a 25k bend. He was stopped on our side of the road halting traffic to allow a large truck with a wide load through.
At first I thought that he wasn't going to do anything but he walked up and started lecturing me and the first question he asked me was , " If I was to talk to you about one thing what would that be?" I realised that he had nothing on me or my mates as he was out of the car on the opposite side of the road so I said SPEED!
That is when the lecture started and he finished by yelling at my mates behind me "SLOW DOWN"
Pretty reasonable under the circumstances and slow down we did for a while!
The Tuono is a hazard to my license and becoming more so as I get used to it and the way it works.
Bloody great fun and razor sharp to boot with fantastic brakes, but I still love the STORM!

Well,
The Tuono is gone and all that resides in the shed is you guessed it!
The Storm.
Time for some serious mods with some spare cash.
Hmm,
Where will I start?
Don't know at this stage.

Interesting reading about your experience with the Tuono. I test rode one of the new Tuono 1100's on Monday back to back with the S1000R (and also an R nine T), and was fair blown away with how much all round grunt the 1100 has together with character in bucket-loads. Also made the BMW feel too platicky, clinical, and souless, so the S1000R was crossed off the list permanently. Seriously considering the Tuono but I feel my licence will vaporise before my eyes if I pull the trigger on it.
