Recently while riding to & from work on my 06 Vtr I began to notice some funny things happening. First off I had power loss where the bike would just all of a sudden die... Not fun while on the m4 in traffic but would re-fire after a couple of seconds of this, then last night I stopped to get a few items at a shop and came out to find the battery flat. Jump started off the wife's car and got home no problems. I figured I would have jump start it again this morning but found it fired up no problems so headed off to work only to have the bike play up again electrical power to the dash disappeared and then after a few minutes the bike died again on the m4, I made it off the freeway and was greatly bless with the traffic guys who picked me and the bikge up and took us off the freeway and dropped us off right in front of an early opening battery shop (awesome guys) So ... Coming home this arvo I noticed again the tell tail signs power to the dash, speedo & tacko drop off but picked up again and I go home ok So it appears more than a battery issue Can these issues be connected to a fault reg / rect Has anyone had this happen to them Also a very big plug to the emergency traffic guys Thanks con really appreciate the help Blessing all Terry

Sounds like a reg rec issue , but check all your electrical connections and fuses first before replacing it. It's a 2006 model , it will have the newer version of the reg/rec , unusual for that one to fail. Graham

Thanks Graeme Was doing some checking out on the Internet and come across a few riders who have experienced the same issues as I did ... So am thinking it is the reg / rect but will get a voltage check tomorrow ... I had a few issues many years ago with my CBR 1000f , anyway we will see Thanks for your help

Might be just a bad earth worth checking but my money is on rectifier. But first check all connections for loose connections or bad ones at least.

Ok it turned out to be the reg/rect which was breaking down when hot but the auto electriction also found a volt drop through the fuses so it will be interesting to see what that is Thanks for your help I will be glad to be back in the saddle this driving to work in a car is for the birds Terry

Good that you have found it as it can blow your battery and burn the wiring harness which is then a big fix

Ok just put on the new reg/ rect and old red is purring like a kitten ... Actually feels like she is running better but that just maybe me Interesting thing though is I tried two Honda bike shops in the western area to access the reg/rect the first would take 2 weeks and cost so much the second would have it over night and was 100 dollars cheaper and with good service and both for the same part Again maybe just me ... Again thanks to you guys for your input Terry

If it is in stock at Honda MPE it should arrive at the dealer pretty quick. I can order stuff from Yamaha Australia in Sydney, and have it at my door in Brisbane the next morning. It just comes down to how often they do their orders. My local Honda dealer normally has stuff for me within a couple of days.
