Hi guys
Has anyone been able to upgrade their head light with good results. I have tried better higher output globes by that seems to put the wiring harness under pressure. I have also done the HId conversion which gives better light out put but it has a flat beam and doesn't work all that well with the standard reflector. I have heard led globes are good but was after people feedback on this
Thanks

Had need to ride at night recently and can't believe how bad the light is.
I have an upgraded bulb but it's still bad.
Am thinking of getting some small Cree driving lights.

I'm thinking of the led set ups very bright but just not sure how the light will be spread by the standard reflector

The powerbronze assy will only be conventional lights. All the Powerbronze accessories for the storm were designed and made back in the '90s when it was a new model.

Im actually looking into the Narva plus 120 halogen globes. Same rating and wattage so no extra load on the loom but 60% more light and longer beam. $85 for two globes they better work

I bought a special philips 'crystal' or narva (don't recall which) - it's still a yellow coloured light but the beam strength is far longer and brighter and I am pretty satisfied with it for the limited night riding I have done.
It is safe from a heat perspective and won't melt the clear headlight lens housing though it does get warm to the touch.
It was about $35 a globe if memory serves, and it is WAY brighter than the stock globe, the difference is enormous.
I have considered getting some led day runners as well...

I hav tried that set up as well but didn't like it. Painted the eom reflector and tried to install the projector but it just would sit right and tighten up the full way for me anyway.
I am returning to halogen globes but with better range and light output. Will post pictures when I have them installed

If you get those extra bright halogen globes be sure to carry a spare with you - they dont last as long a regular halogens

I just purchased a led light through Cyclops in the US. They have a 3800 lumens unit I have just finished installing.
What I really like about this light is it's white. Very white. You see where you're going no doubt. I also like the fact, when you put the high beams on, it doesn't shut the low beams on to put the highs. The low stays on, and there is a second light that opens for the high beams. The advantage is you don't lose the low light pattern at the expense of the highs. You also eliminate the shut off time between the lows and highs.
Now, I haven't ridden with it yet, so, can't say too much about it on the road. But first impressions are so far so good. I took some pics of the install if you guys are interested, since the unit does have a fan attached to the light, and comes with a ballast that needs to be tie rapped.

If you can some pictures as I know there has been a fair bit of interest in the upgrades to the pretty poor oem headlights.

Here are a few pics of the job done. The whole thing took close to an hour to complete, which implicates removing the fairings. I my case, I also cut the rubber boot to be able to clear the fan section of the light as you can see. The light comes with 2 spacers in order to adjust the beam, however, with the rectangular form on the VTR, it's not necessary. Here is the link to the Cyclops web site if anyone is interested. www.cyclopsadventuresports.com/3800-Lumen-H4-LED-Headlight-bulb-_p_83.html

What you can do is run relays and a direct feed from the battery. I have done this to many Bikes and it always works a treat. You normally drop 1 to 2 volts through the switch gear which makes a big difference to the light output. Cheap and easy to do.

I just upgraded the headlight bulb in mine yesterday, I used a Phillips Bulb that is designed for bikes and has a logo on it saying 10g tested. The bulb is standard 60/55w but is 4000k so is whiter and longer distance, Its Called a Phillips Blue Vision Moto and was on special at Super Cheap for $20.00. Its Brilliant compared to a good name brand standard bulb. For $20 was a "brilliant" gamble, pardon the pun lol I have also made my own LED Driving light to make me more visible to idiots, Don't laugh but made it with narrow strip of corflute and pushed 10 3mm white LED's through and Mounted directly below headlight on Fairing, It actually looks pretty good and adds some fill in light. I also added 3 red Led's to My number plate lower holes. 3mm Red LED's in outer holes are Brake and 5mm in centre is and extra Tail light. Kev
