Has anyone ever swapped out the intake cams for exhaust cams for better performance. I have read that this has been done but cannot find any more info on what needs to be changed, modded or swapped out in order for it to work. And what benefits or negatives it has.

Thanks for the link mate. I didn't think it was going to be as easy as some say and I don't think it would be worth the trouble unless you had the proper mori cams and rest to go along with it.

It's interesting that he never followed up on that thread to say what happened. Probably too embarrassed to say he lunched his engine.
Bill from Hpower still has pistons and cam kits on his site so you could ask him if he still has some. You might need to sell a kidney though. To be honest though John, do you really want to make the power curve more like a 4 cylinder because that's what his kit would do. I remember many years ago (ie before 2000!) a magazine test at Phillip Island of a storm that had cams, pistons and a full exhaust. They showed the power curves as well. It lost in the mid range and bottom end but the top was obviously greatly improved. Considering the way I ride (and I suspect you too) I only do mods that improve power across the whole rev range, particularly midrange. I don't really care about top end power or a number on the dyno.

You're really get binny it was more for knowledge gain than anything else. The bike has more than I need but have heard that the cams are same as mori and considering I have two engines pulled apart was wondering if this might be an upgrade that people would be interested in but after reading the post from the link above I don't think it's worth the effort unless you know what your doing and have the gear to do it properly.

Considering the way I ride (and I suspect you too) I only do mods that improve power across the whole rev range, particularly midrange. I don't really care about top end power or a number on the dyno. This is one of the biggest reasons why most of us ride the VTR. The mid range. As you very well said, moding the engine needs to improve in a linear fashion the power band. If I loose on one end to gain on the other....no thank you. Although I wouldn't mid a little more mid. John, you're stuttering.
