Hey guys, new to this forum & wandering if anybody knows if a hiflo brand air filter for the vtr's has the same flo rate as standard filter or similar to k&n. Ready to install dynojet kit and I guess flow rate will determine jet sizes. Done a few mods thanks to this forum, inlet restrictors out tps set ran vac hoses under seat for carb sync, so easy now to check sync, shimmed rear shock , forks 10mm through triples & 15\43 gearing. The bike came with hiflo air filter installed as well as Yoshi rs3 cans so if anybody would like to suggest jet sizes ,neddle clip position i'm all ears. If it turns out that hiflo filter is same spec as standard filter is there anything to gain by going to a better flowing filter like k&n. If so I"ll grab one & work with that. Never owned a v twin before all in line 4s mostly Hondas so it feels familiar ,such a fun grunty motor. Pretty keen on lightening that flywheel I reckon that will go well with these mods so if anybody has a contact for me that would be great. Im on the sunshine coast . Cheers Richie.

Hi mate you will probably find that the hyflo filter will work better than the k&n filter anyway. As far as jet sizes it depends on each bike but 185/190 clip 4 would be a good start and then fine tune from there.
I'm running hyflo filter with shimmed standard needles 48 pilots 182/185 jets and it's running very nicely better than the carbs with dyno jet and factory pro set ups I have.
Also have only one lift hole per slide.

Hi vtrstormer thanks for the reply mate. Got a chance over the weekend to install jet kit and short test ride. Room for improvement but overall pretty good I reckon. Went with your settings on jets and clips 2 1/2 turns out on fuel screws with the standard 48 pilots. Still got a bit of an off idle stumble which it had before, heaps more responsive through the middle which is what I was mainly hoping for but feels like I,ve lost a bit up top. The dynojet kit I got included lighter return springs and drill etc to do slide mod (drill slides) I couldn't help myself so I had to install those lighter springs cause id had great results before using them on carbed r1s but didn't touch the slides after what I had read on here. I'll try and get out for a desent ride on the weekend and get a better idea of what it might need. Like to loose that off idle stumble not sure whats causing that. Pretty happy really but if it means a couple more carb removal sessions ive come to realize the most important thing is check the beer fridge is stocked up. Thanks for ya help and i'll let ya know how she goes

Good to hear mate. Yes these settings will be just a starting point but you will need to fine tune for your bike as they are all different. Have a look at the TPS mod, and carb sync, costs nothing and is known to help out with rough idle and stumbles etc. not knowing your bike but it may just be the ticket
Where are you located?

Done a carb sync & tps set at 500. Idles heaps better now, carbs were out of sync. Im at the sunshine coast & one of the smaller bike shops up here has got a dyno now so I reckon it will be money well spent. Take a bit of the guess work out of it for me. All new to me these vtr's but i'm slowly getting my head around it. Let ya know how i go mate & thanks for ya help.

Awesome news mate. Yeah dyno time will give you a much better idea of how it's going but don't be too worried about final hp figures as these can be very misleading. As long as you get AFR right you're there
