Hello, Just got myself a storm after about ten years without : Did about 100km this arvo on it and just loved it. Cant beat the vibration and sound of these VTRs! Back in 2001 I brought myself a new teal VTR1000 for $13,800 ride away and it was great. I'd had my first proper post-school job for about 6 mths and it was my first real 'adult' purchase. I kept it about 5 years then sold it because I wasn't riding it much. Then along came kids, house, etc. When I think back of what I used to do on that bike, man I'm thankful I'm still here. I don't think you comprehend when you're young how fragile and valuable your body is! Then last year I started getting keen again for a bike. Brought an '03 Monster 1000, kept it for a month or two then sold it because I couldn't get the hang of the seating position and the rattle of the dry clutch was distracting. Top looking bike though. Then that brings me to this blue one I intend to keep for a looong time. It's an '04 and stock apart from the ventura rack. I do have a modification ready to go though (thanks to vtrstormer and kenmoore for the advice): I'm kinda enjoying the stock setup at the mo but will get those Remus on soon. I intend to do a Stay Upright or similar skill refresher course soon too. Try and get some of those skills and instincts back. Thanks for reading! Andrew

Thanks for the replies. Right about the airbrake alright . Gonna check out some after market options, but prob just end up choppin it shorter. The Albury ride looks like a heap of fun. What kind of numbers do you usually get to it? Anyone coming through Batemans Bay (Sth Coast NSW) on the way to it? Got the carbon pipes on and had a run today. It sounds epic! No way the stockies are going back on.

Dremel it off and fit an integrated tail light to tidy up the rear.

Blue FTW Tonka, those pipes look good. I just fitted a DMR F4 conversion rear shock and it's probably the best money I've spent on the bike, $420US including shipping. Also know what you mean about the Monster, I've got an S4R and as much of a weapon it is, I never feel as part of it as I do the VTR.

Did you have to give him your weight including gear so he could spring it to suit? And will he adjust the total length so you don't need the 6mm shim under the frame at the top joint? $420US sounds like a bargain, no change from $1000 on Wilbers and Penske, and ohlins want $1600... I want good suspension but I don't want to take out another mortgage I keep thinking if I'm going to spend that much on suspension I could just buy a sportsbike with better suspension, but I reckon I can stomach $420US

Lastly I think the length has changed to eliminate the need for the shim but probably best to email Jamie and talk to him about any questions you have - he's very helpful. This is their site: www.daughertymotorsports.com/vtr1000f/vtr1000f.htmlI believe he was involved in racing "Super Hawks" back in the day.
