Got these pipes and cans on their way from a wrecker in W.A Supposedly Micron Race system . Never seen a set of pipes like this before . Am hopeing that they will clean up O.K Not really worried about the cans, more the engine pipes. They look to be larger diameter than standard and by their shape hopeing they are high mount. Unusual in so far as they are seperate pipes. If I can get them set up on the bike I might have to revisit my carb settings to get the best out of them. imgur.com/gallery/mJdHj

Well,
The pipes turned up today. I have a sneaking suspicion that they are from an SP1 or 2!
Nice bit of kit, cans are shot but that's not a bother because I have 3'sets of other cans that I can adapt to these headers.
They are 51 mm in diameter as opposed to about 45 for the current setup. A big gain that may necessitate some carb fiddling.
These headers are funny in so far as they are completely separate from each other.as opposed to the standard set up.
Will try and test fit them in the next couple of nights and post pics or links.
If anyone on here has experience with a bigger bore header mod could they please chime in ?
Oh well,
I thought that I was finished with this bike after 5 years , but the journey continues!

Yoshi and some other well known brands made headers seperate and larger pipe size so it maybe something like that. Sp1/2 pipes are 51mm so it could be that as well. You will know when you go to fit them
The bike will need tuning due to better flow now not sure how much.

Started cleaning the pipes up in preparation for the test fit.
Will have to work out what to do for cans and brackets once this is done.

Had a close look at the cans, one of the end caps that joins to the pipes is shot and the carbon sleeve is damaged.
Looking at the possability of sourcing another end cap and then resleeving the cans.
I will wait until I test fit the pipes before I spend anymore time on the cans.
I saw the Yoshis on E Bay , for not much more I could have new ones.

Well ,
Progress with the pipes. They are now on the bike and I have worked out how to fit my J.E cans.
Will post some pics when it's finished .
I got a shock when I fitted them and so will you when you see the pics !

Wow they look interesting. Never seen a setup like that. So it doesn't have a collector or cross pipe at all?

Pipes are completely seperate. Need to ride it further to see if it performs correctly but that won't happen until Sunday.
Still not sure if I like the look !

Well,
I have a few more things to do in regards to mounting this system correctly.
Curiousity got the better of me and I took it for a run this arvo.
Revs like a banshee( As it did before) and the bum Dyno tells me the engine is stronger.
I will fabricate the necessary brackets over the next few days, finish the exhaust wrap ( Need it because my foot is now very close to the pipe) and do a carb mixture check, sync and idle drop as well as reset the TPS and hopefully all will be good.
The sound is much different, not louder just different , much deeper even with the same cans as last fitted and the look is growing on me.
Will update when I am finished ( Famous last words)
I wonder if I will ever be finished with this bike !

Been mucking around with this system and wondered what would happen if I fitted the original baffles. I cut the ends off that sit inside the cans and funnily enough with the baffles fitted it idles better. Smells a bit rich !
The sound is somewhat subdued compared to no baffles at idle but give it a rev and it wails ! Hopefully this will give my Duc and Guzzi riding mates the shits.
Sounds "FAT"
Having owne a myriad of bikes I must confess that the VTR sound is one of the best
We all know that sound when you are twisting on and riding the torque wave . Can't wait to go for a decent run and see what it sounds like on the move .

So have you worked out the mounting issues you were having?

Almost,
Good enough to ride and as the front header had the bracket on it for a bracket to the foot peg I have made a strap that fastens it to the rear set mount plate that is nice and solid.
The cans are mounted together by the can straps, I had to reverse one.
The adapters are a tight fit for the mufflers on the pipes and are clamped and have springs as well.
The whole system is sturdy , but I still need to work out a hanger bracket..
I am 90% there and will post some pics tonight.

Almost finished .
Went for a ride on Sunday and there was definitely a change in the way the engine performs !
Pulls like a 16 year old with a Penthouse magazine and I haven't done the carbs yet.
My brother who has a mildly worked tl1000s was surprised ! He is older and slower than me but commented on the sound and change to the way the bike goes.
The front end got light a few times on the run up Jamberoo Pass, especially under hard acceleration !
Am currently finishing the wrapping and will put pics up when done.
I have posted some pics on our fellow forum in the States and am amused at the comments.
I'm confused as to how it looks but this system is growing on me.
My ultimate aim is to fit some good old fashioned reverse cone megaphones to get the deep growl back again.
The current sound is very snarley but still good.
Just want that good old fashioned V-Twin BOOM !

There. a guy named Alan s on the Superhawk forum who has some really cool expensive stuff on his Storm and his comments were that the pipes are "Disturbing and Wonderful "
Sort of sums up how I feel.
If I catch up with you on Sunday you will get what he is trying to say.
They are now mounted adequately, but I am on the hunt for some good cans.

Well,
I have just secured a new set of Micron Carbon round cans from the States.
I have fitted them and they sound "Deep "
Have to get some Spring clips welded on the inlet of the cans so I will remove the cans only and take them to a welding shop.
I have also removed the exhaust wrap and polished the header.
I like the look sans the wrap much better.
My right boot doesn't cause me any problems and doesn't touch the header like I thought it would .
The Microns I got have a fitting on the inside that allows a mount to be attached and my plan is to join them and then have a single hanger to support them.
I am impressed with the quality of the cans compared to my previous ones, everything on them is quality and they are bloody light.
I will post pics as I go.

As promised some pics of the cans mounted . I took these pics on a ride with a few mates today. We were out in the bush where anything goes! The bracketry is only temporary, I intend to fabricate some Ladybird type hangers when time permits but for now I can ride and enjoy the aural pleasures of this system. It sounds good and deep and goes well right up to the limiter but feels a bit flat. I will put her on the Dyno in the next week or so just to make sure that all is well. Not interested in power, just want it set up right! imgur.com/gallery/XA71V

Still coming to grips with the look I'm afraid !
The sound is great though.
I guess we'll see .
This has been an almost 3 month Odyssey.
I won't be happy until I get my Lady Bird style exhaust hanger . The temporary straps will be a good template for the new hanger.
Will post pics of course but the going may slow down a bit due to the Mrs placing demands on my time .
Cheers
