Hello,
I have a 99 model which has after market mufflers fitted (came to me that way). They are doing my head in (the exhaust note seems to resonate in my helmet or something), and I'm concerned about getting a ticket due to the excessive noise. I've found a pair of stock mufflers from a 2007 model. Will these fit my 99 model?
Also, other than the fuel tank, dash/gauges and carb/fuel injection related parts, are most other parts interchangeable between all years?
Thanks Ben

Yes they will fit and so will pretty much everything else. All parts are interchangeable except for parts of the ignition and even that can be swapped out if you get the entire later model harness etc

I've picked up the stock mufflers and I have them installed, but I have one question I haven't been able to find an answer for via forums, google etc. The upper mounts on each muffler appear to bolt to the rear foot peg supports differently on either side of the bike. One side seems to sit best when mounted to the out side of the support, the other on the inside. The foot peg supports are different with the left side support having an offset created for the muffler support, which makes me think I have it mounted correctly.
The units that came off mounted completely differently so I'm working a little blind. I've looked and looked at the service manual but its not clear.
Cheers Ben

Post some pics, that will help.
I must say that you are unusual in fitting standard exhausts. One of the first things that most owners do is fit cans or a system to unleash the sound of the VTR.
Cheers !

My bike is way too loud ha ha , I have some DB killers I sourced for it but every time I ride without them I'm reluctant to fit the baffles

Yer I know, it sounds counter intuitive. I've been riding load bikes for 20 years, but now I just need a reliable, road legal bike I can jump on and go. I've already been warned about the noise level during a recent stop.
Anyway, I'll grab some pics.
Cheers Ben
