Hi all.
Just got back from the most perfect ride after having the bike up on stands since Xmas while redoing the braking system. Cleaned all the sludge out of the master cylinders and the callipers. New seal kits for same and replaced two rusted pistons. Hel braided lines all round. What a difference! So little effort to stop so hard. Only one small rear wheel skid while braking into a tight corner as I came up behind a mate unexpectedly. Was expecting him to be out the other side of the corner by the time I committed.
We've done this ride a few times and I can recommend it for a great weekend trip. We start at Moruya and head down the coast road to Bermagui for a coffee. Then across to Candelo for a bit of lunch and more coffee, best to have a few so you're really buzzing for the next bit. Head out of Candelo and take the Tantawangalo Mountain Rd through to Bombala. There were a few fresh patches on the road with very small amounts of loose gravel - That's what the guy in front of me was avoiding as I rode into the back of him. All praise for the new brakes then.
There's a turn off onto the Mt Darragh Rd once you get to the top of the escarpment. From Bombala we then took the back roads to Cooma, Gunningbah Rd etc - brings you into Cooma on Church Rd.
Spent the night at the Alpine Motel on the main St. They've got a big garage at the rear of the pub for bike parking and if that's full they open up the function room for more parking. There were 17 bikes there by the time we'd had a few beers. Good pub food and great selection of beers.
The next morning we usually mill about a bit and chat to the other riders then grab some breaky somewhere. No end of good cafes in Cooma. Took the Snowy Mountains HWY back to down to Princes HWY via Brown Mountain. Unfortunately the young guy in the lead got stuck behind a Tarago heading down the mountain so that was not as much fun as it could have been. Didn't want to pressure him as he was on a newly acquired Fireblade and he'd already had a few close encounters that gave us all heart palpitations.
All in all and excellent debut ride for the new brakes.
