No , this is not a tyre thread as such.
A bit like the ABC, no names mentioned however,
I haven't been riding much lately due to a close riding buddy having a very bad accident on the Picton road 2 weekends ago and the fact that my tyres were "Frooted "
I fitted a new set of tyres and rode the bike for the first time in weeks and it was like a different bike.
Cheap way to get a new bike. I visited my mate in hospital and have found a new respect for bikes after seeing his injuries first hand.
It has had a profound effect on me and the ride today was very sedate. The new tyres helped a bit but the whole time I was riding I couldn't help but think about what happened to my mate.
I have covered countless Klms with this mate and was always telling him that chances are for fools.
I travel the road that my mate had his accident on daily for work and have come to the conclusion that the signage on the road is ambiguous at best
Was my mate doing the right thing? Definitely not according to the signage , the problem is the signage and lack of warning about a concrete divider about 150mm high separating the entry and exit to a mine .
If I saw the situation I would have played safe and not overtaken. I rode the road today and can see how what happened happened .
I had thoughts of stopping riding and dare I even say it "Selling The Storm " however common sense prevails and I intend to keep riding.
My mate is an accomplished rider , I'm certain that if the divider was better signed he wouldn't be in hospital now.
Stay safe,
Enjoy the ride.
