Hi Stormers,
My VTR started doing some weird stuff today mid way through a ride and was hoping for some direction on where to start looking. She's an '03 1000 model.
Bike started fine and was riding normally. Then halfway through the ride the indicators would take 5 to 10 sec before they would start flashing after I flicked the switch for them to go. Then a bit later the dash displays started dropping out. High beam and neutral lights were fine but LCD screen would go blank then come to life again over and over in the space of a few sec, speedo and tacho would drop to nothing then come good again.
When I got home and it was idling I noticed the neutral light and the headlight were not looking as bright as normal.
I've read the rectifier can be suspect on the VTRs and was figuring that is what it will be and I was just wondering if the gurus on here reckon that sounds about right?
Thanks heaps. Andrew

You need to test voltage at the battery. At idle and then at around 2500rpm. Healthy charging system puts out 13.6 - 14.2v at 2500rpm. Your symptoms do point toward a faulty reg/rec. But you need to do some testing first

Think I found the problem. The lead in the positive terminal was a bit loose where it attaches to the battery! I'll give it a run over the weekend and see what happens.

I had a similar problem and it was a loose earth lead on the battery!
