I have been a long time member of this forum and have gained and contributed .
There is a sense of community on here that is all pervasive.
People have come and gone and the volume of communication on here has slowed.
There are a few "new " ones however the posts and the mods have diminished .
I am interested in how different folks change their bikes to suit their needs and the conditions they use them under.
I have changed my bike heeps to the point where it is almost perfect( I have owned 43 bikes that I can remember, there could be more), goes like stink, handles great and now stops . There is always room for improvement and refinement and that's where the forum comes in.
Next anniversary will be 7 years, the longest I have ever kept a bike, it's sitting in the Cave with a holed right hand radiator but I just love it.
Let us all know as a collective what you have done to your bike, I'm sure other folks on here are curious .

That's a list mate,
Show us some pics when she is finished .
A further mod that gives bang for the buck is a lightened flywheel in conjunction with a QAT ! Seems like the old girl has another 20hp after that as the power and torque become more accesable due to the engine spinning up faster.
I have found that every mod on my bike Leeds to another !
At the moment I have a blown radiator and am debating as to fix it or replace it ! Working on a Harley at the moment so it will have to wait. I have blown the right radiator this time. I blew the left hand one about 3 years ago and gave it to the local radiator guy and $20- later I was back in business so I will most likely go that way.
Hope it works !

Pics when done....pics when its gets back together but finished? . it was stock once QAT? My own meanderings have led me to believe big flywheels make horsepower and torque little ones make for faster gear changes and response. The whole drive train and vehicle become flywheel punching at the limits Mods lead to needs lead to mods....then there's the fix that didn't fix the problem....Like thought the lack of clutch was the crazy cracked master.... slave seals coming Thinking time to look for radiator hoses, 15 years old soon and it has sat neglected often, Were radiator fails cancer or dropsies? Ran it up on an IV bag the other night, Half a litre to get it to 100 degrees, quiet chains, snappy throttle! held water and did everything right...after I'd primed the dry system and then charged the battery...again.

My 98 had a fair bit of stuff done to it when I got it , racetech front springs full Yoshi system , dynojet kit, braided brake lines , the mccts done , since I've owned it I put a hyperpro spring on a newer rear shock off an 04 and a Coerce fork brace and VFR bars to get the riding position up a little , I recovered the seat myself and put another seat cowl on it , just a few things that make it nicer to ride .Attachments:

I'm sure there are some great bikes out there! If you have one tell us its story. The best thing I did to mine was the suspension and brakes. A 2005 ZX10 USD,radial Triumph calipers and a DMR rear shock totally changed the bike. That improvement necessitates a power increase.Haven't worked out what I will do on that front. Could be difficult as I have already done some work on the engine, HC pistons, lightened flywheel, 4 degree ignition advanced, electric water pump, anti rattle gear and springs removed ,coil on cap plug mod,Dynojet kit,p.a.i.r removal, overbored full system with new Micron carbon race cans that sound great . I have probably got to start looking at cams, valves and springs. Thoughts anyone!

The thermostat must be removed and has been that way for about 5 years with no problems. The bike runs between 60 and 80 degrees c at normal operating conditions. The pump works continuously in my application although a temp controller can be fitted. In the quest for simplicity I just removed the thermostat and fitted an on off switch.
I only turn it off if I am working on the bike with the ignition on.
When I fitted the pump I removed the water pump gear and chain along with the anti rattle gear and springs . I did this just after I fitted the HC pistons and the original water pump seal let go. The pump is a Davies Craig unit that a lot of car guys use to improve water flow through their inter coolers .
Another reason I did the pump was to reduce mass , finicky I know but I was in the grips of OCMD at the time.
I have removed heaps of weight from the bike , in my opinion it is the easiest way to get more mumbo .
I could elaborate on what I have done to my bike over a 6 year period however most of it is on this and other forums.
The mods have slowed somewhat and part of the reason for starting this thread was to see what other folks have done and maybe do the same if it suits.

I’ve not been riding much lately. Only a few thousand on the storm this year. I’ve an 05 model in red. No seat cowl (rare as hens teeth haha), hi mount staintunes, dynojet jet kit and hi flow filter, 5mm shim on top of the rear shock, 0.85kg Öhlins springs in the forks, rubbers pulled out of the carb inlets near the butterflies (I don’t know what they’re called? Restrictors?), no airbox mods other than filter. Also have rizoma grips with a quick turn throttle, that was one of my favourite upgrades. Picked them up (the grips) for $15 on eBay and threw the bigger throttle cam in with it, and holy Christ it woke the bike up. No more second reacharound to get to WOT, just roll on mod corner and rip it on the way out, hit the stop and hold on haha. Absolute cracker, transformed the way I ride it. Heaps of fun at the track too.
Haven’t done anything to sprockets or chain, so not many engine or performance mods at all apart from the jet kit and air filter. Dyno’d at approx 103 rwhp and 94nm, which is more than I’ll ever bloody need. Now I have to fix the handling and brakes.
I’ve got a HID headlight in the front, heat gunned the stock glass off the headlight box and took the guts out, replaced with a H1 HID headlight and bought them as a pair so I have a spare one. Some primitive wiring had to be done as stock hi beam turns low beam off but I needed the hi beam switch in the HID light to move the beam cover to hi beam position whilst keeping low beam on - was a bit of fucking around and I’m not very happy with the way it is now, but it works and it’s bright as fuck. Cornering hard at night is.... interesting to say the least. But it’s a damn lot better than the moth-repellant that the bike comes with. I swear bugs would fly out of the path of the bike because the darkness on the side of the road is actually brighter than the pathetic spread which comes out of the stock globe haha.
A mate of mine is machining up lightened flywheels for firestorms at the moment, and will give me a good deal on one if I take the bike in to his shop for its 48k service. I might get on board, am very keen to pep things up a bit. My main problem currently is handling, I’m looking at a DMS rear and then will decide whether to get Mr Hay at Wallacia to respring and revalve my front end or to go the USD route. I’ve got some CBR600RR calipers from another member on here, still haven’t installed them as I’m not sure if I want to get the forks machined or redo the front end - when I decide I’ll either get them on, or pass them along to another member if I take the USD route.
I’ve been riding on track a lot more lately, and love touring on the storm so am scared to throw it into the gravel. Been on the hunt for a little 600 trackie and am always second guessing throwing more money at the storm for mods like this, but I might just have to bite the bullet and do it. You only live once, right? It’s just such a fantastic bike, I can’t ever imagine getting rid of it. All day comfortable, goes like a stabbed rat, sounds tough as fuck, and imo is one of the better looking bikes Honda has come out with. Sport a massive V-twin grin every time I’m on it!

Get the flywheel done, it is the iceing on the cake so to speak !
Agree that the headlight is a POS standard, I fitted a Led globe and it improved it but still shithouse .
Probably one of the last things I will do is tackle the light.
Been thinking that the endurance look with one single light offset . Need to het a centre front fairing and fibreglass it up, then fit light.
There is a guy named fabiostar on another forum that did it.
It looks great, just need the time to do it .

Did all the normal mods upgrades
Rear shock ( Wilber’s race and remote reservoir? Front end upgrades Cbr1000xx stand Upgraded brakes and Mc to match SS lines Wavy rotors 15/43 sprocket change Speedo healer Puig race double bubble screen Gear indicator Re padded and upholstery of seat Flush mount LeD indicators Painted and refurbished rear spring, swing arm, forks etc The list goes on.
All made the bike to what I wanted and probably didn’t need but it turned heads and I loved it so it was well worth it.
I’m now doing the same to my new SP1 and loving it

How does the Sp1 compare to the VTR in terms of ownership ?
I have had a ride on a shabby one and it was an experience .I have had a lot of bikes thorough the cave in the last 6 odd years but the VTR was always my favourite .
I just like the way I can thrash it without scaring the shit out of myself.
I must be getting old !
