Bloody bloody bloody. Got back from a ride on Friday and when I pulled my ear plugs out and gave it a rev I heard a new tapping noise that I've not heard before. No noise when idling. It's something in the motor. It pissed down for about half the ride but I don't think that would have made a difference. Bike has about 52,000ks on the clock and is stock standard. Any ideas would be welcome.

Do you have manual tensioners ?
Could be a blown exhaust gasket,
Valves require shimming
A sound clip might help

Thanks Kenmore. I'll try to get a recording but I'm slightly afraid to start it. Original tensioners. New ones sitting on shelf next to bike. Been putting this job off as lazy.

Ah,
Do the tensioners.
Hopefully that will sort the problem.
While your in there check the valves.

If it sounds like dot dot dot, dash dash dash, dot dot dot it’s probably Morse code and someone is trying to get your attention
