Hi all Just bought my new love in early new year. 2007 VTR1000 in std red. Staintunes (sound amazing) but otherwise std. Always loved Hondas and restored a CB400/4 from a basket case (red too). Had a break from bikes for a bit but now back and smitten badly. Hope to learn a lot of the all the tech info and suggestions. Your site looks really great. Just got back from a burn to Bermagui and now love it even more. 1st question... Does the fuel leak out from somewhere??? 2nd question Any recommendations on sport touring tyres? Thanks!

Welcome aboard. If you have a look in the Where Storms Gather and Ride section you will see our annual OzFirestorm Weekend in Walcha is just over 5 weeks away if you are keen

Welcome along jw. In answer to your question, no it shouldn’t be leaking fuel. It’s now a 14 yo bike so something may be perished and you’re picking up a fuelly aroma. Diagnosing it is difficult without a tonne more info. If you fill the tank as far as you can, then park it in the sun it will leak through the overflow vent as the fuel warms and expands. Other than that, I’m sorry I can’t be of more help.

The only place they leak fuel normally is out the exhaust the harder you twist the throttle the more pours out lol. As Nudie said if you do have a leak though they are getting old and things do perish with age. The fuel Petdoodle diaphragm's wear out and can make them leak from the weep hole on the bottom of the petdoodle or overflowing the carbs when parked up if the float needle and seats are tired and the petdoodle is faulty. This can lead to filling the sump with fuel. As for tyres everyone has their own opinions as to what is best. Personally I love Metzeler's I have run 2 sets of Sportec M7RR and they were brilliant, I switched to the new M9RR last March when they were released and am about to fit a new set of the same before our OzFirestorm Walcha Weekend at the end of March. (I always fit a new set of tyres for our Walcha weekend and assault on the Oxley Highway) My M9RR's are not worn out yet and will go back on after Walcha to run them out ( I have a spare set of wheels so get the new ones fitted to one set and run the others out after Walch each year) The M7RR are great wet or dry and last well, the M9RR are even better for the way I ride.
