G'day. ;D
I am looking to find out how to make threads appear at the start of sections. I have a couple of things in Tech Stuff for example that have disappeared after a while, and I wrote them to be a good reference, and easy to find.
The posts in question at the moment are called "Improving the gearshift" parts one and two.
Is it called a "sticky"? How do I do it?
Cheers, Shayne

Hey Shayne,
When you create a thread, scroll down and the 2nd last line on the page says:
"Sticky Thread" To sticky this thread, check here.
Put a tick in that box and your thread will appear at the top of the pile.

Like Robyn stated there should be a "sticky" button at the bottom of the page in your initial post but at the same time there are already 8 "sticky" posts in the Tech section..............if you sticky too many of your posts the other stuph will be bumped further down the list into oblivian..............what you deem to be important may or may not be important to "all" on OZFS ....some of us like the trivial crap too Andy

I don't think us plebs are able to create stickys. You guys might be able to see that option because you're mods.

That's correct. If everyone had the ability to make sticky threads then I think there would be a problem. However the solution to your problem is simple. At the bottom of the posts on the lower left you will see a button with a dog's paw on it called bookmark. If you click on that you will add the thread to your bookmarks which will appear in your user profile section. You can even go in there and manage your bookmarks so that you get an email if a topic you are interested in gets a reply.

Hmmmm because i have always logged in as "admin" i don't see what everyone else sees when they are on Must be time for a ghost member so I can look at the place like a normal pleb instead of an admin pleb #rofl#

The bookmark function misses the point of a sticky though Sean. Sure you would then get a notification of replies, but a Sticky is to make something prominent to everyone else.
Andy did make a good point though about too many stickys being an issue.

I understand Dale, I guess the best thing to do in this case is to send a PM to one of the Admins asking if the information warrants being made into a sticky. Sorry I should have read the request a little more closely.

Thanks guys and gal.
I am only looking to do it on certain things that will be useful as reference material for all members, not just myself. Good point on taking up space though.
I have a suggestion. If we keep things as they are, and leave these existing sections totally as "help columbs", how about we do what the US Superhawk forum has done, and have a "Knowledge base" (or some other title) section where permanent technical articles can be archived. In their own section they would be easy to go through too.
We do have some good stuff written by our members, such as the "Install your spacer" thread, and the header pipe thread "Mod you must do". If we could group them together it would make a good reference tool, and not clog up the "help" sections.
Just a thought, I am not looking to make any waves, just an idea to help people out when looking for information.

Bloody good suggestion. There was/is a thread here somewhere that links to the service manual download. It's constantly buried and often enquired about by new members. I know I've trawled for it a few times.

AGREED! A great suggestion. Andy. Make it so. ;D
Perhaps you guys could help out by trawling though the forums and flag articles you would like to see go into this FYI section.

Ok I took the initiative. Grabbed the ball and ran with it. Sorry Andy. Now do you guys think that people should be able to post in this board? I'm always a little wary of info areas filling up with non essential information. By moving the posts from other boards we do get all the replies moving with them. Currently I've switched of user participation until we decide on what the best course of action might be. Your thoughts?

IMO a resource section should be a repository only, and any further discussions would need new threads opened in the relevant sections.

Yeah I agree Dale, that was what I was thinking.
I have written a couple of articles that I would like put in there directly, and may in the future as well. However, we will also no doubt have things that come up by way of general chat, and can be moved to the new section. These may be very lengthy in the end, and may need to be edited before moving them across.
As you suggest Seanus, I think control of this should remain with admin, in order to keep things concise and orderly. This will make it a useful and easy to use tool. An example of this would be "Mod you must do", which could be re-named and edited in order to be more user friendly.
How would you like us to mark a thread to be transferred? I have a couple I would like in there.

How would you like us to mark a thread to be transferred? I have a couple I would like in there. I think replying here with links to the threads will do fine. The problem with moving threads over is that I can't copy them, I can only move them. This means editing them will destroy people's contributions. So for now I might just move them and leave them as is. I guess if people want to reply to them then that should be fine, but if they go off topic or just start being silly then we will have to moderate with an iron fist. ;D

If you look at the bottom of any message you will see the words: "Link to Post" down the bottom right. I think you can use that.

I just clicked on that, on one of my posts, and it didn't seem to do anything at all.
Can you give me few pointers in how to use it?

Awhile ago there was mention that the www.ozfirestorm.com.au site would be a kind of home page and then have a big link to the forum where all the crap goes on. If this were to eventuate it would be easy to have articles created as html/pdf links off the main www.ozfirestorm.com.au site. That way it would be a resource for both members (most importantly) and other random owners. It would also enable whoever were to create the documents to edit out all the relevant info from the relevant threads? Make sense?? To much work??

No sweat Sean,no reply will work for me, I think that it should remain an info only board with no B.S posted after the fact. so in reality only the Mods and Admin will be able to post in this section..............just means you need to PM or email a mod or admin to get any new stuph posted in this section as it will become one of the most important boards on OZFS. PS...ya beat me too it Sean....I was gonna call it Shayne's Shiite #rofl#

#crys# You are mean!!!
Now, moving right along...... the new section is blocked so we can't access it.
I have a couple of threads I think should be in there. They are as follows:
Tech Stuff page 7 "VTR Rebuilding Tricks"
Mods page 6 "Improving the gearshift"
Mods page 5 "Improving the gearshift part 2"
Cheers, Shayne

Thanks. No doubt other members will have stuff to move as well, such as the on-line manual (but I don't know where that one is).
