Quick quizz. I've had my 04 Storm for a couple of years now. As far as I can tell it was pretty stock when I bought it. The best I've got is around 230kms a tank on the stock pipes without running out. I've had high set staino's on board for a year or so usually with the spuds in. I had the occasion of running dry at 220km's with probably half the tank two up with the staino's. I don't recall ever getting any way near more than about 14 litres of fuel in to her filling up to the edge of the seal lip and it's obviously the 19 litre tank. Seriously doubt it's been rejetted as the pipes were stock. What sort of mileage (kilometerage?) should I be getting? My sleds fuel consumption is ALWAYS greater than every other bike on any ride or trip. (No other VTRs to compare to by the way).

They are thirsty mate Dont be overly concerned. your K's are about right. A mate of mine has a 98 model & he stops more then i do. His has the 16l tank. My 04 model Has been rejetted & i have stainies on mine & i find i fill up more often then my other mates with IL4's. When my fuel gauge starts flashing i head for the nearest servo & the most i have ever got in is 15.5L

Yeah I suspected it was about right, it's just that I read an old thread here somewhere where a guy mentioned his mileage was between 230 and 270 kms. 270 kms ain't gonna happen with my girl unless she's on the back of the neighbours ute. I've had the last bar flashing bucket loads of times and still not got anywhere near 19 litres in the tank. Thats why I ran out once at 220. I thought there must still be heaps of fuel left.

I have had a 04 model and a 98 model. The 04 at best would get 200klm out of a tank (refueling around 14 to 15 ltr). Then my 98 would only get around 140klm at best (refueling 12 to 13 ltr). The way the bottem of the tank is shapped, you will not get all the fuel within it . As for klm per tank, it is all in your right hand! The harder you ride the less fuel you get. Now i have a Buell with a 14.5ltr tank, i get around 200klm. And that is going as hard as i can ;D. All the bikes have had pipes and filters fitted, but no jet kits.

They vary so much even not taking the rider into acct. They all seem to be different even stock and then when you start adding pipes and filters, jetting etc no two storms are alike. i dont think I ever got more than 14L into my 19L tank. I could though get 250km out of that when I was touring. When my brother owned it before me and he could get only about 220. SO the rider can make a big difference as well.

Now this seems a bit out to what everyone else is getting, but last week I went for a two-up ride, with gearsack, over a mix of city, freeway and then Great Ocean Road ;-) The fuel guage started flashing at around 280km, and I filled up at 305. It only took 15L.
I generally plan on getting around 300k from a tank. I figure that the bike gets about 50km for each little bar on the guage, making around 300k in total. I know it's probably not a linear scale, but it averages out about right.

I work on 230-270clicks per tank depending on what I have doing. I know I can get at least 30clicks on the dreaded flash at 120per hr.

O6 model I ran out of juice 2 ks from home a few months ago coming back from the GOR, I had done 268kms on that tank. My daily commute to Uni is now 3.7 km round trip, I am getting approx 115km per tank Oh and since pulling out my K&N filter and going back to the OEM version Im getting much better economy, go figure. .

Got 19l tank , and regularly get about 220 from a tank , with alot of neck ringing . Bike has usual mods , jetted , exhaust and aftrmarket airfilter . Last trip to PI last year with 2 full rear bags , tent and chair , averaged 280 - 300 per tank all the way from Brisbane and back . Was mainly all highway riding . Mate has a KTM superduke , admitted his tank from memory only holds 16L , and all it can get is 180 - 200 a tank on the highway , has Akropovic pipes and been chipped also . And i thought Storms were thirsty !

i've got an early girl, '97 model. no mods except debaffled exhaust, now that my carbs are synced properly i get bang on 200km until reserve comes on, and thats riding around town reasonably quickly. takes 14L to fill usually, so i get small change from a $20. i'm pretty happy really

On my recent trip to Sydney, then Phillip Island I was getting 140-150km to reserve light on ULP and 160-170 on 98 octane. refill was usually 13-14 Litres Tank 16 Litre, Pipes & K&N Filter & Rejetted. Steady brisk Highway riding

99 model from a recent trip on the highway including a 15-20 minute high speed corners mountain run I got 220kms without the flashing fuel light, I put in 13 litres, so I could have done 250ish I reckon.
Only mods I know of are Arrow CF exhausts.

I usually get about 170 kms from 13 Litres putting around town. During long trips it will get around 210 kms or so. Belting around Philip Island uses a stunning amount. I took about 40 Litres to the track, did about 200 kms and used most of it, (because it can I suppose).

I ran out of fuel at 209Kms goin home from work yesterday....1KM from home. There was a small ammount of fuel left in the tank so I shook the bike from side to side until it restarted and I made it home, past the closed servo. I filled it this morning and it took 15.36L on the sidestand.....probably would have got the full 16 if the bike was level.

I get 180-200 on twisties and 220-250 highway, 1up no luggage. Does balancing the carbs inprove economy much?

After two trips to Robo pie shop ( 150kms ) with Nudenut i still have three bars showing on my fuel guage and at that rate i could nearly squeeze 300 clicks out of it , making the trip to the Dyno man worth every penny ;D

I ran out of fuel riding on a 1997 vtr right on 250km and my fuel gauge does not work so I fill up at 200. I had a 1998 tl1000r that got the same litres per tank, and my old mans x1 lightning gets just a little less so I think that is about average for a bike its age.

Hi,
I've seen 260-280km on mine albeit going fairly easy (110-120Km on the highway (19L tank, Microns, pair valves disabled, standard airfilter mod, carby inlet boot restricters removed but no other fuel related mods) . I usually get the reserve LCD flashing at around 220-230 but sometimes less if I'm riding around town. When it comes to fuel consumption VTR's do not like city riding !. Highway use I can achieve 17+km's / L but with city riding its easily down to 14Km/L. I never seem to get more than 15L in as well. I think the time I got to 280Kms I just go tin 16.5L or thereabouts ?. Its disappointing that the advertised tank capacity is not the actual usable fuel amount.

Have only put 2 tanks of fuel through my new girl so far but 250km on 14.7L and 220km on 16.2L so far. Fuel flash at 240 & 210 km.
First tank was considerable highway use, second was a lot of two up and commuting. That said, being a new toy I'm playing quite a lot so I'm expecting economy to improve once I settle into a more consistent riding pattern.

Has anyone else found that you get better fuel consumption using 4-5k revs rather than 2.5-3.5? I wonder if this is due to the bike not being on the main jet as it needs less throttle to accelerate say 10mph....
I was on the motorway in top at about 80mph used a tank in 80 miles (16 litre) at 2-3.5k revs, tried 4-5k and got 114miles to the red light.
I just dunno.

Maybe being in 6th gear helps as it is an overdrive so higher revs=higher road speed=better economy?

Sorry I didnt make myself clear, the odd thing about the increased mileage was that I was in a lower gear (4th) using higher revs at the same road speed and getting better mileage out of the tank.......

On a stock 2005 VTR I fill around 200km, and the fuel gauge always reads the last bar. If I've got to 225km, its flashing, but it only ever takes about 12 to 13L and I fill it to the brim. Haven't had the nerve to run it dry yet. Sometimes I ride a little enthusiastically, but it doesn't seem to affect it. Maybe I'm not enthusiastic enough! I think it runs most efficiently sitting between 4K and 6K rpm than keeping the revs below that, the bike isn't as happy. As for north of 7K... well, its fun but not ideal behaviour for the afternoon commute! ;D But as for the 2am one...

Mmm methinks mine has a wee drinking problem, I get maybe 180 before red light of doom, but i only get around 13/14 litres back in tank. I did ride on the reserve light for 20 ks last week, but bike started spluttering under acceleration,....... I think a full tune is in order, or is this not abnormal?

I always got the flashing at about 190km on my 01. My new bike stops at the servo every time I ride it. On average the light comes on between 100-120kms. Best 150 using some reserve and I don't have the skill or balls to ride it hard. Now I know THIRSTY

Firstly, I believe I bought the bike with a jet kit. I had it dyno'd once and reached 114 HP. It's a '98 carb model. From full, I get around the 160 crusing but when riding hard more like 120 before the light. On the track the light can come on as soon as 80. I have only pushed it once, I ran out of fuel on back straight of Broadford on last session of the day. Pushed it about 5 metres to end of the straight and rolled back to the pits. Usually I get a bit of ribbing at the pumps from my mates while they're still on half tanks. Sorry, blame mine for the bad street cred
