I rode my vtr till it ran dry and it stopped bang on 300kms. I was using BP Ultimate and wasn't babying it or flogging it either just normal riding fun. I used to worry a bit when the last bar on the gauge started flashing at about 220 kms, but now I know there heaps more to go before it runs out.

Thanks Mish thats good to know , as I said mine gets down to the last fuel cell on the readout at about 200ish and I was sweating that it would be dry by 240 or so , good to know you can probably push it further , Ill be interested to see how the guys go , I suppose to it would be helpful to know what setup people are running , as in mine has staintunes , K& N filter and , that would probably make a difference over someone running a stock or different setup

I had mine down to the last bar (not flashing) at 210km and topped it up with 11 litres. I thought WTF, still at least 5 or 6 usable litres left! This was after my first real longish ride on the bike so I will keep an eye on future consumption.

Anything in the rules regarding average speed? All i have to do Steve is ride like normal to qualify , and some single wheel activity may well be included. Riding like normal to qualify is an argumentative point , as was the lack of single wheel activity , but we did a run yesterday and JD's storm went 290 kms before it ran out. Graham

Mine started flashing today at 195 an filled it up at 215 and got 16L in it. That was 90% freeway riding on premium & a 17T front sprocket!

I am a bit confused. I got the 19lt tank, filled it and rode into the city and back (around 100km round trip) and the fuel gauge is on the last light and flashing. Not sure how long i have left...i didint check how many litres i got, but i filled it on the stand so a couple under the max. More than 100km worth i would've thought.

I'm on a 16 litre tank and going at it granny style i.e. 2.5-3.5k RPM, slow shifts and gentle roll-on's I get around 200km on a tank. My low fuel light doesn't work so I refill at the 180km mark. Oh, and that's with 91 RON.

Thing i dont understand, is when you take the tank off, the Fuel Sensor is up in the high section of the tank above the AirBox. With a whole lot of tank capacity down lower where the tank pivots from.
Does this explain why when the last red light flashes, there is so much left? Or does the sensor run down to that lower section inside the tank?

So I'm imagining that the float descends as fuel is used until it reaches a point perhaps where it activates the sender switch for the fuel reserve light. I would think that they have something similar but with a variable sensor to indicate the amount of fuel remaining in the tank for later models with the fuel gauge. Someone who knows more about this stuff can probably explain it better than me.

For the first time in almost 2 years I ran out of fuel, coughed and spluttered as I coasted into the Servo.
Had been out thrashing the old girl, got 137 Klms and coul only get 16.72 litres in.
Usually get about 220 and put around 14 litres in when cruising. Knew I was thrashing her, but that is the worst I have ever done.

I fuelled up this morning, 281klm since last refuel,......she took 15.27 litres. My reserve red bar always starts flashing about the 250 klm mark. My storm is my daily commute if it's not raining, but the trip to work is all major arterial road and freeway, so its 80 to 120 k's per hour. The fuel consumption at this rate works out to about 18.40 k's per litre which is pretty good. If one could count on 17 of the 19 litres being usable......? then 300 + klm per tank is feasible, but I don't think I'll test the theory

I never ran it that low though so I got 250ish on 13.5L. It had pipes and a filter and was jetted on a dyno with BP Ultimate and had all the AFRs spot on. I haven't really had a good run on the blue one yet to get any useable data. I've done a few commutes on it and it would be lucky to make 200 in the heavy traffic. So many factors affect it including your riding style, conditions, gearing, jetting etc. I've seen some guys with jet kits never able to get over 200 with the 19L tank. I think they were running way too rich.

Ok cool....I'm on the 16l tank and the light comes on about 180, never run it dry so I'm not sure what it has in it.

There's so much variance from everyone's reports so I figure It's just easier to fill up earlier than to risk it.

My light comes on at anywhere from 180 - 200. I fill up soon after but can only seem to squeeze in about 12 - 13 litres in a 16 litre tank. So I guess you ( I )could go to about 250Ks then push. Don't want to find out though!

After a long straight boring highway run the reserve light was just starting to flash at the 230K mark. Then could only get 12L in. Try not to do too much of that crap again or may as well get a cruiser!

Accidently ran the bastard dry 1.5k from home - 249.9Km to bone dry. And I mean sputtering to the last and rolling! Thought I hadn't reset the trip meter after the last fill, and did a quick open the flap check. She'll be right, seemed to be enough in there for what I was doing - wrong As opposed to my post above, these were not HWY Ks, 90% twistys.
