I thought this might be a useful addition. Nice place. Competition for the old burned out halfway house. www.greygumcafe.com.auVery bike friendly with a reasonably large concrete bike parking area. Food is not too bad, and the place has heating/air conditioning so its warm in winter and cool in summer.

I stopped in there again today and had a short chat with the owner. Nice old guy named John from memory. We talked about whether they considered selling pertrol but he rightly said it would cost millions to put it in and be lucky to get pennies back. Fair enough, probably true.

I read on another site that they will have to close because the RTA and local council want them to fund a turning lane into their property off the road , which will cost way too much for them to afford. Typical beaurocratic red tape crap that will force another small business out of action.

I just got the news that last night the Singleton Council has withdrawn their cease-trading order and they are all clear to stay open. The RTA ended up backing Greygums too and were putting pressure on the council to stop what they were doing. So it looks like Grey Gums is here to stay!

Old halfway house was on the peak of a hill and a corner yet no need to have a turn lane there. Dumbasses

They also said they will be holding some sort of event in the Year Year to thank those that have stood by them. It was the motorcycling fraternity that saved them and they want to say thank you. What happened was Motorcycling Australia spoke with the head of the RTA, convincing them that Grey Gums was a perfect place to let people Revive and Survive. Then the RTA put pressure on the council to stop harrassment but the council wanted to persist up until last night.
So yeah, it is excellent news! This is one of the places I like to cruise to when I dont feel like riding too far or I only have a half-day to ride. Stop for a hamburger, because god knows I need to eat more, then cruise back home. Perfect!

Sounds like the only thing that saved them was the whole stop, revive survive thing. Good stuff. Hopefully they still get a turning lane one day. Make it even safer.

Was there again on sunday and the owner made a point of going to each table and thanking the riders for their help (and the advertising value money can't buy).
They will be marketed by RTA as a revive stop, lots of lead up signage etc. The turning lane will be put in with the cafe only adding a small percentage. SCC wanted 350K from them.
The entry / exit is all in one drive now as well, which is safer.
I noted that the RTA rest area not far from there is also on a curve with a sharp turn in driveway.
It is a good reason to ride
