This topic has probably been covered before, but I have scored myself a pair of VT Commodore flushmount indicators and wanted to know can these be fitted without having to modify the existing openings in the fairing.

Yep just did the same thing only 2 days ago. The only thing I have found is that you can only get 5w bulbs for them and now the indicators flash a little faster (similar to what you would get if a bulb was blown).
I also used the existing connectors off the old indictors which made for a neater finish and will also allow me to de solder and reconnect the old indicators back if ever I need to.

Did the same when I changed my rear indicators to micro units, heaps easier cutting off and soldering on the Honda connectors and yeah can always recycle the originals if needed. I have a mate who's an auto sparky and he can wire in a resistor or something he said if the flash rate changes (free of charge which is even better).

I fitted the VT flushmounts and LED ones to the rear and finished up getting a new flasher unit to correct the flashing rate. Fitting resistors is a crude solution, and not a good one as the resistors get very hot if the flashers are on for any length of time. The new flasher only costs about $20.00

Flushmounts are on...20 minute job and the look definitely beats the standard stalk indicators.

hey dogman, what particular flasher unit did you buy? one you can modify the rate, or off another bike?

hey dogman, what particular flasher unit did you buy? one you can modify the rate, or off another bike? I went to a motorcycle auto electrician, and he sold me an "ACME FLASHER-LED LAMP" (no its not a joke) which is just a small cylindrical flasher unit with 2 spade connection pins. Now the Honda one connects to the original unit with a 3 pin mini plug with 3 wires, white&green, green, and grey. The white&green wire goes to earth, and is not required for this flasher unit. I didnt want to cut off the original honda plug, so what I did was made up 2 short leads with a mini spade male connector soldered to one end and a normal female spade on the other. (about 75mm long) I plugged the 2 male mini spades into the original honda plug removed from the original honda flasher to the GREY and the GREEN wires and the other ends to the new flasher. I dont think it matters which way they go. I then put some heatshrink over the plug with the new leads protruding so they cant fall out. The new flasher can mounts in the same position as the original. Hope this helps. paul

Auto electrician..its a Bosch electronic unit and they are not wattage specific, whatever globes are in the indicators they work regardless. Dead easy to change just follow Pauls instructions and she's done.

Indicators must be mounted a certain distance apart. That said, if you want to, do it, I've seen them fitted and they look great. As long as you know the risk.

Better yet, which wrecker was this, i might ring them. cheers... yeah, i've been to that site, but they are way too expensive...

Spent most of the weekend following (or trying to) a bloke on a Fireblade with the Clear Alternatives integrated taillight/indicators and I have to say that they are not the most obvious thing to spot from the back - good chance of being rear ended I reckon.

I'll be calling in there later in the week i reckon poomba I'll check that they still have them.
Theyre not led just a single simple 21w globe but they look heaps better than bulky originals.

Fitted Vt Commodore flushmounts front and back last week. Picked them up at a Commodore wreckers for $25 the lot including the sockets. Got an electronic flasher unit from auto electrician for $16.50. Works perfect, looks smick but I am aware the Ventura rack partially blocks the rear ones. Not a real prob cause I don't always leave the rack frame on cause the bikes look so good with just a cowl and a smooth arse end.

The rear flushmounts are just as visible as the front. You can see them from behind and one side, but obviously not the other side. You get to do a full fenderectomy and lose the old blinker mounts as well.

Im assuming youve cut into your tailpiece to mount the rears...what happens if you do the full fenderectomy then get pinged for illegal indicators and are forced to go back to stalk type mounts..nowhere to put em!!!

The only problem with the VT indicators is that the globes are only 5 watts. I have been looking for alternatives, but there aren't any that Ive found. The most promising alternatine so far is a 20w halogen desk lamp globe, but of course they are clear. Does anyone know of a heatproof coating to colour a globe amber? The globe connections are different too, but that is fixable.
