Heya all...back from holidays just in time to pick up me new babies Had a go at putting them on this evening and all went sorta smoothly...screwed a gasket pretty bad but will get another tomorrow. I started the storm up just after I took the old exhausts off and nearly made a mess of my pants Housemates came running out wondering what they hell I blew up in the garage ;D ;D When I first put the left hand can on I had the bracket attached to the pipe (down at the base not the pillion peg) on the outside of the mount....pretty sure this was wrong as the other side went on nicely behind the mount. The left side was also really close to the plastic around the number plate which I think was due to the extra twist given by my bad mounting The left is the side that I need a new gasket so its apart at the moment. What I'm hoping is if anyone has some closeup shots of the mounting on some high staintunes.... just to confirm my guess on how its supposed to be Damn those gaskets a little bastards mangled one well and truly before I figured out how to get them out of the old pipes and onto the new ones without ripping them to bits!!

I think Stew/Proudestmonkey has the high-mount Stainies on his beast. Not sure about pic's but you could pick his brain 'bout the mountings

I've got high mount Staintunes, they were on the bike when I bought it. Looks like there are extra spacers used to keep the pipes away from the plastic bits.
I can send you some pics later today - must be today though as away from tomorrow.
Let me know an e-mail as I'm not sure how to post them on the site.

Sound is awesome..i love em I have taken some pics of before and after and will post em either here (if i can work it out) on on my site.

I had Staintunes on a previous bike and they were designed so that there was no need for the gaskets. Maybe worth a phone call to Staintune to be sure.

Both the bike shop and the instructions said that you needed the gaskets...the instruction even went as far as saying that you'll probably screw the gaskets trying to get them off and that replacement ones can be obtained from your local honda dealer Nice backfiring on deceleration...hopefully thats supposed to be there. Store said no jetting would be required but dont know if that is only with the dampners in....which aint gonna happen

Sounds awesome when idling. You'll probably discover you're chewing through the fuel now........all the throttle blipping at the lights and on downchanges just to hear the exhaust note/bark. ;D ;D

Look the puppies don't they BagMan. I haven't got mine re-jetted or anything like that. It pops and farts a fair bit (and the occasional cough/miss) but as far as i am aware that is nothing to worry about.
My question for you is: "WHAT BRAND RACK IS THAT AND HOW THE FECK DID YOU GET THE BASTARD ON THERE?". I have tried fitting a Ventura rack with no luck. It knocks on the cans right up the front near the 'L' bend in the rack.

Hmmm...I actually hadn't thought about the racks Don't think they touch but they do look close in the photo. I'll have a good look tonight and post a closeup photo. As far as I know the rack is a standard Ventura one. It was already on there when I got the bike. The grab handle is a Ventura one I know that much

That'd be great BagMan. It might just mean a slightly different spacer under the foot peg or something to change the angle of the pipe (although that would probably cause greif down the bottom end though wouldn't it). Would you mind sticking a ruler against the spacers?

The left side has about 5-6mm at the closest point between rack and can. The right is not touching but damn close.....I could get a sheet of paper between the rack and the can The spacers are 36mm including the bevelled bit at the end. I reckon that if I used maybe 34mm spacers that could move it away from the rack a bit......hard to tell which way would actually move the can out rather than in. I think if the pegs come out further then the pipe would actually angle back to the bike more and so get closer to the rack.

When I first attached the left side messed up the bottom mount. I attached the pipe on the outside of the mount rather than the inside. This made a fairly drastic change in angle and the screws were hard to put in but it did all fit...very closely though.
Given that, I would expect a few mm at the footpegs wouldn't really be too much of an issue in regard to attaching at the base.

Oh that sounds alright then. I might try moving the peg mounts to the outside tonight and see if that will give me some more room.
Thanks heaps mate.

Oh that sounds alright then. I might try moving the peg mounts to the outside tonight and see if that will give me some more room. aaaahh...huh? Can't picture what you mean?? Mine goes rack-spacers-pegs (where the pillion pegs attach to the bike) and the can attaches on the inside at the peg mount with the little spacer on the left hand side between the mount and the can. The mount that I messed up was the bottom one near where the pipe connects to the rest of the exhaust....I had to move it to the inside cause it made the back of the can touch plastic What happens to the angle if you add some additional washers where the spacers are for the pillion pegs? That would be easiest, but like I said before, it may actually push the can further into the rack.

i have been told that you can get staintunes in round high mount (not oval) and they will fit ok with the ventura rack, is this right?

I have heard that the round ones will fit right in. It is way to tight with my oval cans to try and get the rack in. It would mean cutting out some of the underseat plastic wich i don't really want to do.

Changing the mounting didn't help then?

I don't think it will. Moving the pipe mounting seemed to make the gap a little tighter
