Hey mate and welcome, not many problems with these bikes and if you get one that has had mcct and finned rectifier fitted you should have no problems at all. If the bike is or has been well maintained you should be right to go. feel free to ask any questions as there is a heap of info on here and many people willing to help out
enjoy

Hi everyone. I don't actually own a firestorm, but am currently looking. I was lucky enough to come across this site whilst doing a bit of research before I take the plunge. I was looking at a VTR1000 in my local area, and the seller mentioned to me that the bike does have a cam chain rattle. So my research of cam chain rattles and related topics lead me to here, among other good sites. So far I have really enjoyed the read. The more information I read the more I feel like the bike I was looking at could be a good buy after all.
Thanks.

Hey all. new to the forum. Had the Vtr for approx 5 months. Was a dull blue, re painted by the previous owner. At the moment I am re doing all fairings, tank. New springs and oil for my weight. Painting the rims, new tyres, new mirrors, and a general cleanup. Hope to make some friends and meet new people here. Chris

Thanks for joining, stay upright Hi there, Have just added a 2006 red Firestorm to my stable, having been long impressed by the sound of those regularly overtaking me in the twisties around Mt Mee and Mt Glorious. My question to the forum is whether there is a preferred VTR expert/mechanic in Brisbane? My bike only has 8,000km on it, but I would like to do a few mods to suit personal requirements, and also for ongoing maintenance. Also, I live on the Northside of Brisbane if other Stormers would like to catch up for a ride or a yap. cheers Jacques

I can't comment on Brisbane but I can say that I've had trouble finding a good mechanic in Melbourne, and after my last experience will never take it to a mechanic again unless I absolutely cannot educate myself to perform the procedure myself.
The beautiful thing about the storm that I'm discovering is that because it's a pretty traditional carburettor based engine with only two cylinders, it is actually possible to buy a service manual and perform many of the maintenance activities yourself, which is a really satisfying experience, especially if you have a classic high stress office job like I do!

Seemed pretty good at the time - about 3.5 yrs ago. haven't been back since as I live on the Goldie and these guys were near where I bought it. Like Macca says I try to do as much as possible myself now as well. www.cheapmotorcycletyres.com.au/home.html

And Hi from me. Just picked up my 2006 VTR with 24000k's on the clock. My first big bike after owning a Suki accross and Cbr600F4i. So i've ridden it back 100k's and a bit around town (inner Sydney) and yeah it's ghreat. Great sound and comfy ride. Still got to get use to the sound as i'm not sure where the revs sit best in traffic. It is less power than I feared and also heaps light enuff to maneuver which is great as im not a massive guy to say the least. Yep I think this will be great. Will need to hit people up for advice on the best tank bag and sac. Its got pilot 3's on it which seem ok and other than that the riser pipes and tail lights are the only other changes (polished rims etc). Yes the brakes do feel a little spongy compared to the CBR but hell, it sounds a whole lot betta.

Where is Sydney are you from Hi, I'm just getting used to the site navigation and am starting to read up( though i'm not too mechanically minded with vehicles). I'm in the inner west so usually just doing the traffic thing. Sometimes get out to the Royal National Park. I think im going to get myself a tank bag for a GPS so I can get out more Got the bike on Saturday and of course the rain has set in I've got two small kids so times a little short. cheers.

"I've got two small kids so times a little short." Story of my life. I haven't ridden my bike in 10 weeks. Doing basic maintenance like replacing brakes takes 6 weeks alone due to the 1-2hrs free I have to spend on the bike each week. Painful but under no circumstances am I selling this bike. I love it too much, even if it's only sitting there :-D

Hey razor. Sixty Degrees Motorcycles in Notting Hill. Really friendly team of people but not exactly a smooth experience in terms of getting a quality service on my bike first time around. Expensive, too, so my expectations were high.

Hi Macca, that's disappointing. I used to take mine to S Jays Motorcycles in Tullamarine, a bit far from you but it was good just run by 1 guy. I went there 3 or 4 times and reasonably priced. Any problems or if I was concerned about something he'd just say bring it back. That guy went by quality rather than quantity. But good repairers that you trust are hard to find.

Hi all, I sit here quite excited as am about to pickup my new Matte Black '05 with 40K on the clock plus staintunes. Deffinately a step up from my ZZR 250 which suffered a SMIDSY accident a couple of months ago. I'll check the rest of the forum out, but does this model suffer CCT problems as well or was it fixed by then? Cheers, Dave

Welcome to the forum Dave. Yep it sure is exciting when you are waiting to pick up a new steed.
As far as the CCTs go there is no difference across the years so the same guidelines apply. Age is an issue as much as KM so if the CCTs are the original ones they are 10 years old now and are likely to be a risk.

Hi. Great site, heaps of info on here. Whoever is running the show is doing a sweet job. I just picked up a 2005 firestorm with less than 8k kms. Showroom condition. Italian red (I think that's what they call it?) and clean as a bell. Couldn't be happier! What a bike...
