85 Hailwood replica Vtr1000f I'm curious to hear your view on the differences / your experiences between the duke and the VTR ? I had a '78 860GTS and a '96 916 Biposto some time back.

I learned to ride on my uncle's old Kawasaki 400 2 stroke dirt bike. Scary the first few times when you hit the powerband and it lifts the front, especially when you've barely ridden before.
My first bike was a Suzuki GN250. There's a lot of hatred for them on the main kiwi biking forum, but I found it to be a fantastic little machine. Excessive rear tyre size ment that you could go around almost any corner with the throttle wide open. It taught good practice when it came to overtaking, the seriously limited power teaches you to plan ahead and pick good gaps. Ruthlessly cheap when it came to fuel and tyres.
Next was a Suzuki GSX400X Impulse. Charcoal tank and plastics, dayglow orange frame. A tiny little race bike from the 80s IMO. Huge 4 piston disk brakes on both sides of the front, combined with rediciously low weight ment stoppies were a breeze. Took it to a track day and had a ball. Wound it right off the 180km/h speedo down the back straight of Pukekohe. Turn in was lightning fast, knee downs on the hairpin were easy. Took a bit of getting used to after the GN250, going from 5 speed 8k redline to 6 speed 13k redline. Was a fantastic bike, but made for someone the size of a jockey rather than an average Kiwi bloke.
So, my third bike is the Firestorm. It fit me like a glove the first time I rode it. I love going back to the smooth linear power delivery vs the 'rev the nuts off it' of the Impulse. Despite being bigger and heaver than the Hyosung 650GTR and the Suzuki SV650 I tested on the same day, the Honda definately handled better for me. I must admit that a mate's Suzuki GSXF600 is a fantastic handler, but I wasn't keen on the styling and I wanted a twin, not a 4.
My other ride - my dad's bike - is a Honda CBX1000. Enormous 6 cylinder beast. Stuff the Nissans, this thing should be called Godzilla. The sound is like nothing else, and it handles reasonably well for such a heavy old thing.

Even if you match it the car runs like a dog in stop start city driving and chances are it will be a defect magnet.

I went straight from a Honda CBR 250 to my VTR 1000.
Thanks to a very forgiving and nice to ride bike, the adjustment wasn't too hard.

and here is another massive list...
HysongGT250R '99 VTR1000F '07 Gixxer 600 black ;D I love this bike but im gonna sell it soon to finance the storm rebuild. tears will flow that day.
Currently genetically engineering the storm for harvesting in a couple of months hopefully. A twin is a much better street bike in my opinion. IL4s r better for the track.

Short but funny list:
1- Pushy with a Zbox 50cc 2 stroke kit 2- Honda VTR250 (a 500% increase in CC's) 3- Honda VTR1000F (a 400% increase in CC's) *
