I can vouch for what Nudie said about the radiator/mudguard interface, as I nearly wore the guard when it returned from Earth's orbit after they involved themselves! ;D Spectacular! ;D Graham PS the build is looking real good

Yeah a bit like that ziggy, every time something gets done i get a little more excited ;D A little more progress today with the radiator going in, ive worked out how to mount it using the old oil cooler mounting bracket now i just need to get L/H outlet (90deg) chopped off and a straight outlet in its place, a few extra brackets removed and a coat of paint and its ready to stay there. Ive also worked out that i can use two L/H hose's (Thermostat to radiator) they are a perfect fit with R/H only needing to be shortened an inch or so. Ill be dropping the radiator in this week to the radiator shop and hope to have it done by the end of the week so i can finish mounting it on the weekend and cross it off my to do list (which somehow is getting bigger not smaller ) any way here is some pics... hope you like just a few questions on the radiator . does the vtr temp sensor screw straight in and whats the dimensions on the radiator . going thru this process and $500 for a custom or $200 for one of ebay is a big difference

Sounds good Fail.....but first thing first Getting this girl finished. I got the radiator back from the shop, all ready to go. I ordered two left hoses (as per last post) on tuesday just gone (17/11), thinking they would be in by the weekend? WRONG is it just me expecting too much to have them in a few days? 2 WEEKS ex Japan? WTF? does anyone else find this a little bit far fetched? any way frustration aside, i sprayed some black on the radiator and mounted it up.. with this out the way and the hoses still coming..time to start on the headers i started with a wire wheel for the 4" and took them right back to bare metal (p**sed off i never took pics) they came up like brand new, then was to paint them. more pics to come

Does painting a radiator black have any negative influence on how well it works?
What paint did you use?
Dowant black radiators.

Does painting a radiator black have any negative influence on how well it works? What paint did you use? Dowant black radiators. Many would suggest it does - especially if the paint clogs the fins in any way. I did mine 3 or 4 years ago with Matt Black exhaust paint and have never had an issue with overheating. Colin is likely to have more definitive information . . .

Im sure in some small way it does, but since they come black std i didnt think twice about re painting it. i used motospray hi temp paint (650deg) this should be sufficient. the early VTR's i think had silver/alloy radiators but my model had black ones.

Not surprised about the parts backorder - I waited 6 weeks for some of my stuff.
I would never paint a radiator. Tanks only if you must. Experts advise not to do it and I reckon they are right.

Seat cowl is a nice colour. You should just paint the rest of the bike to match.

Looks awesome mate! I'd chop down that front fender so the front-end is about the same length as the back-end.. that's the only bit that "sticks out" when I look at it.. that's just me though.
Naked storms look so damn good.. can't wait til mine is back on the road.. though might be delayed as i'm thinking I should do the single-rad conversion now too..

Well it seems Mr Honda finally came through and coughed up some hoses. So this arvo......i trimmed them up and slapped them on, just need some new clamps.. Gotta look into a braid kit to, to pretty them up and the left overs...as you can see had to trim quite a bit off each hose

Ok, first thing first....off to Auto one for some hose clamps. Once that was done i decided to pull my seat cowl off and match it paint wise to the rest of the bike (thanks Shayne). So a quick rub with wet and dry, some flexi prime and some Matte black.....DONE! While this was drying i was eying off my oil cooler, not quite happy with the end result...so off it came. I redone the bracket i had made previously, shortened the R/H hose and painted it with some hi temp black while it was off. After re fitting it, i was now happy with the way it looked.. I had plans to chop up my subframe today, but decided to leave it until i fit new front end as it is shorter in length than the std one....but once i seen the subbie with no seat and seat cowl i couldn't help my self, off it came. Seems like one step forward, two back.. First thing i done was decided where i was going to cut...i had planned on extending the bottom mounts, but after looking at it again and again, i decided to separate the two halves and and go from there.... After doing this, i bolted it back up to start the measuring..(measure twice weld once) So after working out where it needed to be i clamped it ready for welding.. After some random seagull flew over and shat all over it ( ) I decided to ask Dad for some help...lol (yes with an arc welder) A splash of silver paint and it come up as good as factory (almost) And to my amazement (and relief) it bolted straight back up as if never been tampered with ;D so i tidied up the wiring, re fitted the seat cowl, the seat and seat pod then rolled it out for some more pics and to sit my ass on it.. BEFOREAFTEROverall, not a huge visual difference...but sitting on it felt awesome, very tough indeed. It will be very intimidating in the rear view that's for sure

VTRfighter, I have been closely following your progress with this streetfighter thingo and have been pretty impressed up until I saw the modded subframe sticking up in the air. I thought he was going so well but now he's farked it, well and truly farked it! BUT, then I saw the pic with the seat back on and was surprised that it still looks cool. Ya done well. Scared me a bit there but keep up the top work! ;D

Yep - nice work mate. Although my nuts are aching from looking at the seat . . . do ya reckon it'll be alright if you get a fist full of front brake? Oh and will the original undertail/battery box still fit? Or are you gonna need to custom up something?
Looks better with the paint matching . . . gonna paint the front guard for the mo so it looks right? :-P
Now - do you need to paint the main frame and fuel cap too? The silver is looking a little out of place IMHO . . .

Thanks guys for the feedback...i think? Yep - nice work mate. Although my nuts are aching from looking at the seat . . . do ya reckon it'll be alright if you get a fist full of front brake? Oh and will the original undertail/battery box still fit? Or are you gonna need to custom up something? Looks better with the paint matching . . . gonna paint the front guard for the mo so it looks right? :-P Now - do you need to paint the main frame and fuel cap too? The silver is looking a little out of place IMHO . . . ok here i go..... Wont need a fist full of brake because people are gonna get outta my way from sheer fright when they see me coming, even the traffic lights are going to be intimidated and change back to green...so to answer that...Should be ok i think...or hope If you skim back through my thread, i previously chopped up the std undertail, only keeping the battery box, which fits nicely..i will eventually be purchasing one of these.. Built in indicators and tail light all in LED...;D Thats a negative for the front guard too, im replacing the entire front end soon, so just really wasting time (and paint) by doing it.. Frame is prob going to stay as it is..maybe paint the machined sections to match but unlikely at this point.. Fuel cap is on the list to replace with something like this, so that's a no to painting that.... ummm i think i answered everything? oh...maybe get yourself to a Dr cheeky to have those nuts checked out??

Howdy all Not a lot to report at the moment but a few new pics none the less. With a bit of motivation kicked into me, the front end is GOOOOONE. So with this off i ripped the radiator off and once again made some new brackets and refitted it, quite a bit easier with no forks in the way and i managed to get it mounted a little higher and a bit further back so there should be no clearance issues now, BUT im going to have to re think the radiator hoses as they dont fit real well now?? (suggestions?) Ive also added a pic of my new legs (RH one anyway) just need to source some triples and get them bolted up, then axle, calipers etc etc etc Anyways enough dribbling...pics.... Ill be taking orders for the newly designed (and patented) front stand too, PM me if interested
